About the Course
This Royal Horticultural Society course is for those
wishing to gain a Level 2 qualification in Horticulture on
a part time basis.
You will study the following units:
• Plant classification, structure, and function
(5 credits)
• Plant nutrition and the root environment
(3 credits)
• Maintaining plant health (3 credits)
• Understanding plant propagation (3 credits)
Each unit is assessed by a written examination covering
all learning outcomes specified in the unit. Examinations
are taken in June.
Those who successfully complete all the necessary
units for the two Level 2 theory-based qualifications
(Certificate in Principles of Plant Growth, Propagation
and Development and the Certificate in Garden
Planning, Establishment and Maintenance) above will
gain the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of
Horticulture
(28 credits).
Entry Requirements
There are no formal qualification requirements; all you
need is an interest in horticulture!

• Understanding the choice, establishment and
maintenance of garden plants and lawns

• Understanding the production of outdoor vegetables
and fruit (3 credits)
• Understanding protected environments and their use
in plant cultivation (3 credits)
Each unit is assessed by a written examination covering
all learning outcomes specified in the unit. Examinations
are taken in June.
