NVQ Certificate Performing Engineering Operations - Level 1

About the Course
This programme will provide you with a basic
understanding of electrical installation work and offers
an opportunity to progress on to a level 2 programme.
This course allows students to acquire transferable hand
skills and a basic knowledge of electrical installation
work. This programme is offered at both the Keighley
and Technology Campuses.
You will learn about
• Working safely in an engineering environment
• Carrying our engineering activities efficiently
and effectively
• Using and communicating technical information
• Assembling electrical wiring support systems
• Wiring electrical equipment and circuits
You will learn the practicalities of how cabling
enclosures, supports, accessories, wiring systems, and
accessories are assembled and installed.
You will also be required to undertake Functional Skills
and Personal & Social Development as part
of your programme.
Entry Requirements
Students wishing to enrol to a Foundation Learning
Programme will come with a range of qualifications
which could include GCSEs, units of qualifications
already taken or have few or no qualifications.
All students on Foundation Learning programmes
will be required to take qualifications in Personal and
Social Development, Employability Skills, a vocational
qualification and Maths and English. Each student will
be invited to an interview where a personalised learning
programme can be discussed and agreed.
In all cases offers will be subject to interview/transition
gateway and a positive reference from school/tutor.
Future Opportunities
On successful completion of your programme, you can
progress to a level 2 course in electrical installation, at
Leeds City College (Technology and Keighley Campuses).
You may also progress to an apprenticeship if you find
employment within the Electrical Industry.
