About the Course<br />

This course is for people of any age and background<br />

who wish to progress to become electricians, or seek<br />

work within the wider electrical industry.<br />

You will learn about<br />

• Working in Engineering<br />

• Principles of engineering technology<br />

• Principles of electrical and electronics technology<br />

• Maintaining electrical wiring support systems<br />

• Wiring and testing electrical circuits<br />

• Principles of maintenance technology<br />

You will learn about the design, construction and testing<br />

of a range of electrical circuits and systems as found in<br />

domestic, commercial and some industrial applications.<br />

The Course includes practical workshop tasks that<br />

provide opportunities for students to develop hand and<br />

tool skills, which meet industrially recognised levels. The<br />

course will also provide knowledge of the principles of<br />

technology that underpin the electrical engineering<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade C and including<br />

Mathematics or English. In all cases, we interview you to<br />

assess your ability to benefit from the course.<br />

All learners are required to provide their own safety<br />

footwear.<br />

Future Opportunities<br />

This course offers the opportunity to progress to<br />

the Level 3 Diploma in Engineering - Electrical and<br />

Electronic Engineering. You could also apply for an<br />

apprenticeship, if you have an employer and you are<br />

working in the electrical industry.<br />

About the Course<br />

This is the progression course for people who have<br />

completed the Level 2 Diploma in Engineering, or for<br />

applicants with a previous qualification at the same<br />

level in a suitably related area, and wish to either seek<br />

work as an electrician, or work in the wider electrical<br />

engineering or installation field.<br />

You will learn about<br />

• Engineering health and safety<br />

• Engineering principles<br />

• Principles of electrical and electronic engineering<br />

• Maintenance of electrical equipment and systems<br />

• Electronic power control systems and practice<br />

• Power supply, and analogue and digital circuit<br />

principles and fault finding<br />

You will learn about the development of, and<br />

implementation of, maintenance and fault diagnosis<br />

procedures on a range of electrical and electronic<br />

systems. You will also learn about the principles of<br />

operation of the systems mentioned in a practically and<br />

theoretical manner. There are practical tasks within the<br />

course that develop previous hand and tool skills, while<br />

also providing opportunities to develop skills in the use<br />

and understanding of electrical and electronic test and<br />

measurement instruments.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

You need to have successfully completed a Level 2<br />

Diploma in Engineering – Electrical and Electronics<br />

Technology. In all cases, we interview you to assess<br />

your ability to benefit from the course. All learners are<br />

required to provide their own safety footwear.<br />

Future Opportunities<br />

This course offers the opportunity to progress to higher<br />

qualifications, such as the HNC in Building Services<br />

Engineering offered at <strong>Leeds</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />
