About the Course<br />

You will learn by a series of extended practical exercises<br />

in well-equipped workshops, backed up by relevant<br />

classroom theory. The course will look at further<br />

developing an understanding of construction in relation<br />

to the working role of managing the construction<br />

process. You will look at the building process and<br />

documentation, Complex masonry design and repair,<br />

Practical training and testing on complex masonry<br />

structures incorporating decorative work and fireplaces<br />

The programme looks within the supervisory<br />

roles of construction, providing an insight into the<br />

management roles. Students will look at the planning<br />

and development of the construction process. Practical<br />

sessions will provide an appreciation of the decorative<br />

work still employed within brickwork.<br />

You also study Functional Skills qualifications or GCSEs,<br />

if required.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying, or equivalent.<br />

In all cases, we interview you to assess your ability to<br />

benefit from the course.<br />

All learners are required to provide their own safety<br />

footwear.<br />

Future Opportunities<br />

You can progress to higher education, onto a higher<br />

brickwork apprenticeship, or into employment.<br />

About the Course<br />

Apprentices learn on the job building up knowledge and<br />

skills, gaining qualifications and earning money all at the<br />

same time. You will attend college one day a week and<br />

block weeks for off the job training.<br />

Apprenticeship.<br />

You will be trained to NVQ Diploma level 2, a level<br />

2 Technical Certificate and study Functional Skills in<br />

Maths and English at level 1. As well as being part of<br />

the Framework, Functional Skills help you to develop<br />

qualities and transferable skills, which are desirable to<br />

employers.<br />

Advanced Apprenticeship.<br />

You will be trained to NVQ Diploma level 3 a level 3<br />

Technical Certificate and study Functional Skills in Maths<br />

and English at level 2. This would be suitable for those<br />

preparing for a supervisory role for example.<br />

NVQ Diploma.<br />

You will build up a portfolio of evidence of experience,<br />

situations and duties you have dealt with relating to your<br />

job. On the job assessments will be carried out in the<br />

workplace. Once you have shown enough evidence to<br />

meet the criteria, you will complete your NVQ diploma.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

There are no formal qualification requirements.<br />

Acceptance is subject to college interview, achieving<br />

level 1 on BKSB numeracy and literacy tests, passing a<br />

skill area test and finding suitable employment<br />

Future Opportunities<br />

Students can progress into a career in the brickwork<br />

profession or onto further Brickwork qualifications.<br />
