About the Course
Every Apprentice has their own Work Place Support Officer who is based
in the Work Based Learning Unit. They will visit you at your workplace and
maintain close links with your employer and tutors. As an electrician you
will be responsible for installing and managing the electrical systems and
equipment that is necessary to bring electricity to our work & homes.
You will be trained in safety and installation techniques and expected to
work at heights, outdoors and in confined spaces and there will be some
lifting involved.
The work of an electrician will include jobs such as wiring to new homes
and businesses. You will learn methods of testing and locating faults with
electrical equipment, assembling electrical components, using meters and
much more.
Entry Requirements
• Complete initial assessment (which consist of literacy/numeracy and an
Industry specific trade test)
• Individual interview with a member of the Electrical team
• To be proactive in securing employment (help can be given to do this)
• You are required to have a GCSE grade C or above in Maths, English
and Science
Future Opportunities
At the end of the course you will have a nationally recognised level 3 NVQ
Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology. This can lead to entry into higher
education, such as the HNC in Building Services Engineering offered at
Leeds City College (Technology Campus), or you could progress onto
management.
