About the Course<br />
Every Apprentice has their own Work Place Support Officer who is based<br />
in the Work Based Learning Unit. They will visit you at your workplace and<br />
maintain close links with your employer and tutors. As an electrician you<br />
will be responsible for installing and managing the electrical systems and<br />
equipment that is necessary to bring electricity to our work & homes.<br />
You will be trained in safety and installation techniques and expected to<br />
work at heights, outdoors and in confined spaces and there will be some<br />
lifting involved.<br />
The work of an electrician will include jobs such as wiring to new homes<br />
and businesses. You will learn methods of testing and locating faults with<br />
electrical equipment, assembling electrical components, using meters and<br />
much more.<br />
Entry Requirements<br />
• Complete initial assessment (which consist of literacy/numeracy and an<br />
Industry specific trade test)<br />
• Individual interview with a member of the Electrical team<br />
• To be proactive in securing employment (help can be given to do this)<br />
• You are required to have a GCSE grade C or above in Maths, English<br />
and Science<br />
Future Opportunities<br />
At the end of the course you will have a nationally recognised level 3 NVQ<br />
Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology. This can lead to entry into higher<br />
education, such as the HNC in Building Services Engineering offered at<br />
<strong>Leeds</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong> (Technology Campus), or you could progress onto<br />
management.<br />
