About the course<br />

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Countryside<br />

Management, offered at the Horsforth Campus,<br />

continues on from the Level 2 Diploma in Countryside<br />

& Environment, and will provide you with a more in<br />

depth programme relating to conservation, sustainable<br />

development and the environment.<br />

You learn a variety of subjects relating to a career<br />

in conservation, sustainable development or the<br />

environment. Learners undertake a combination of core<br />

modules and options.<br />

Modules include:<br />

Undertake an Investigative Project in the Land-based<br />

Sector, Understanding the Principles of Wildlife<br />

Populations, Ecology and Conservation, Undertake<br />

Estate Skills, Review Work Related Experience in the<br />

Land-based Industries, Understanding Principles of Plant<br />

Science, Principles of Soil science, Land-based Machinery<br />

Operations, Understand Land Use and Environmental<br />

Issues, Understand Greenwood Crafts, Undertaking<br />

Urban Habitat Conservation, Undertaking Woodland<br />

Habitat Management, Understanding Principles of<br />

Physical and Biological Environmental Processes<br />

Building confidence in using practical skills in a range of<br />

situations will be addressed within this qualification. You<br />

may construct, repair, maintain boundaries, structures<br />

and surfaces and carry out practical habitat management<br />

work. You may be able to safely operate land-based<br />

machinery and maintain and carry out simple repairs.<br />

You will learn about environmental processes and the<br />

habitats where British flora and fauna live.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above including<br />

Mathematics and/or English or equivalent, a Higher<br />

Diploma (which is equivalent to 7 GCSEs at Grades A* -<br />

C, NVQ2 or level 2 Diploma at merit grade with Maths<br />

and English at minimum Grade C or equivalent.<br />

In all cases, we interview you to assess your ability to<br />

benefit from the course.<br />

Future Opportunities<br />

Students who achieve good grades could go on to study<br />

in higher education including the Foundation Degree in<br />

Wildlife Management and Conservation offered at <strong>Leeds</strong><br />

<strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong>. Alternatively you could enter into the world<br />

of work within the ecology and conservation industry<br />
