About the Course<br />

This programme is ideal for school leavers who want to<br />

become skilled craftspeople. This course develops your<br />

knowledge and skills in <strong>College</strong> rather than in a working<br />

environment. You will learn by a series of practical<br />

exercises in well-equipped workshops, backed-up by<br />

relevant classroom theory. This includes learning all<br />

aspects of basic brick and block work.<br />

workshops, backed up by relevant classroom<br />

theory. This includes learning all aspects of basic<br />

brickwork including mixing mortar, cutting components<br />

and laying bricks and blocks. You will also undertake<br />

qualifications in Personal and Social Development and<br />

Functional Skills.<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

Students wishing to enrol to a Foundation Learning<br />

Programme will come with a range of qualifications<br />

which could include GCSEs, units of qualifications<br />

already taken or have few or no qualifications.<br />

All students on Foundation Learning programmes<br />

will be required to take qualifications in Personal and<br />

Social Development, Employability Skills, a vocational<br />

qualification and Maths and English. Each student will<br />

be invited to an interview where a personalised learning<br />

programme can be discussed and agreed. In all cases<br />

offers will be subject to interview/transition gateway<br />

and a positive reference from school/tutor.All learners<br />

are required to provide their own safety footwear.<br />

Future Opportunities<br />

You can progress to the level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying<br />

offered at <strong>Leeds</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong> (Keighley and Horsforth<br />

Campuses). You could also progress onto a brickwork<br />

Apprenticeship.<br />

About the Course<br />

The level 2 diploma in bricklaying builds on the content<br />

of the foundation learning programme in bricklaying,<br />

further developing your knowledge and skills in college<br />

rather than in a working environment. This programme<br />

is offered at Horsforth and Keighley campuses. You will<br />

learn by a series of extended practical exercises in wellequipped<br />

workshops, backed up by relevant classroom<br />

theory. This includes learning all aspects of basic<br />

brickwork including mixing mortar, cutting components<br />

and laying bricks and blocks..<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D and E including<br />

Mathematics or English, a Foundation Diploma<br />

(equivalent to 5 GCSEs at Grades D – G), NVQ1 or<br />

satisfactory completion of a Foundation Learning<br />

programme with a minimum of 37 credits<br />

(at level 1).<br />

In all cases, we interview you to assess your ability to<br />

benefit from the course.<br />

All learners are required to provide their own safety<br />

footwear.<br />
