About the Course
This one year foundation learning course provides
you with an opportunity to experience and develop
a range of skills in a Construction setting. You will
explore a range of core units providing you with
essential information for a all jobs in the Construction
industry. You will also learn practical skills associated
with Carpentry & Joinery and Painting and Decorating
throughout your course.
You will learn about
• Structure of the Construction Industry
• Exploring Health and Safety
• Sustainability in the Construction Industry
• Construction Processes and Operations for LRDB
• Construction Methods and Technology for LRDB
• Construction Drawing Technology
• Exploring Carpentry and Joinery
• Performing Joinery Operations
• Exploring Painting and Decorating
• Performing Paper Hanging
• Performing Decorating Techniques
Entry Requirements
Students wishing to enrol to a Foundation Learning
Programme will come with a range of qualifications
which could include GCSEs, units of qualifications
already taken or have few or no qualifications.
All students on Foundation Learning programmes
will be required to take qualifications in Personal and
Social Development, Employability Skills, a vocational
qualification and Maths and English. Each student
will be invited to an interview where a personalised
learning programme can be discussed and agreed.
In all cases offers will be subject to interview/
transition gateway and a positive reference from
school/tutor.
All learners are required to provide their own safety
footwear.
Future Opportunities
You can progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Construction
offered at the Joseph Priestley Campus. You could also
progress to the Bricklaying Diploma Level 2 offered at
Leeds City College (Horsforth Campuses), or onto an
apprenticeship, if you have relevant employment.
