About the Course<br />

This one year foundation learning course provides<br />

you with an opportunity to experience and develop<br />

a range of skills in a Construction setting. You will<br />

explore a range of core units providing you with<br />

essential information for a all jobs in the Construction<br />

industry. You will also learn practical skills associated<br />

with Carpentry & Joinery and Painting and Decorating<br />

throughout your course.<br />

• Structure of the Construction Industry<br />

• Exploring Health and Safety<br />

• Sustainability in the Construction Industry<br />

• Construction Processes and Operations for LRDB<br />

• Construction Methods and Technology for LRDB<br />

• Construction Drawing Technology<br />

• Exploring Carpentry and Joinery<br />

• Performing Joinery Operations<br />

• Exploring Painting and Decorating<br />

• Performing Paper Hanging<br />

• Performing Decorating Techniques<br />

Entry Requirements<br />

Students wishing to enrol to a Foundation Learning<br />

Programme will come with a range of qualifications<br />

which could include GCSEs, units of qualifications<br />

already taken or have few or no qualifications.<br />

All students on Foundation Learning programmes<br />

will be required to take qualifications in Personal and<br />

Social Development, Employability Skills, a vocational<br />

qualification and Maths and English. Each student<br />

will be invited to an interview where a personalised<br />

learning programme can be discussed and agreed.<br />

In all cases offers will be subject to interview/<br />

transition gateway and a positive reference from<br />

school/tutor.<br />

All learners are required to provide their own safety<br />

footwear.<br />

Future Opportunities<br />

You can progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Construction<br />

offered at the Joseph Priestley Campus. You could also<br />

progress to the Bricklaying Diploma Level 2 offered at<br />

<strong>Leeds</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong> (Horsforth Campuses), or onto an<br />

apprenticeship, if you have relevant employment.<br />
