Trades Helpers Wayne Taylor and John
built through a $150,000 grant from New
Jersey DOT and erected between 1 and 8
a.m. on Sunday, July 25, with no significant
effect on traffic. The effort was a collaboration
of OSD’s Sign Shop and SEMAC
units and HT Maintenance. The Sign Shop
fabricated the aluminum supports and
installed the sign, SEMAC did steel structural
work to the walkway bridge, and HT
Maintenance handled the new lighting
and roadway closures. Not pictured: Sign
Board Approves New
Terminal Space at JFK
The Port Authority Board of
Commissioners this afternoon
approved a plan for Delta Air
Lines to build new state-of-the-art
terminal space at John F. Kennedy
International Airport’s Terminal 4,
replacing the antiquated space the
airline now occupies in Terminal 3.
Under the plan, Delta’s international
traffic will move into nine newly
constructed passenger gates and
up to seven of Terminal 4’s existing
gates, occupying 16 of the expanded
terminal’s 25 gates.
the second floor of the South Wing.
operator in the country, will continue
to have overall responsibility for the
management and operation of the
terminal.
Once the new gates are built in
Terminal 4, Terminal 3 will be demolished
to provide 16 additional aircraft
parking spaces, allowing Delta and
other airlines to have increased access
to their equipment and helping to
alleviate congestion on airport
runways and taxiways.
Delta Air Lines handles almost a
quarter of JFK’s annual passenger traffic.
Using donated board, fabric, and glue, students
brainstormed, designed, and built scaled models
of a memorial park in sites in Brooklyn and
Queens to commemorate the victims of the
Haitian earthquake and then presented each
design to the larger group. The project was
