GSA Signs Lease
For One WTC
One World Trade Center is now
more than 55 percent
leased, after the U.S.
General Services Administration this
week signed an agreement to lease
more than 270,000 square feet of
space on floors 50 through 55 for a
20-year term.
The GSA joins world-class publisher
Condé Nast, which has leased nearly
1.2 million square feet to house its
global headquarters, and Vantone
China Center, which leased 190,000
square feet.
‘Raise the Roadway’
Is Ahead of Schedule
The Port
Authority
announced
this week it will finish
the deck removal
portion of the Raise
the Roadway project
at the Bayonne Bridge
six months ahead of
schedule. This will
ensure completion of
the project before
commercial operations
begin at the widened Panama
Canal. The deck removal will provide
clearance for larger post-Panamax
ships to access marine terminals in
New York and New Jersey.
Work will begin in mid-2013 to
build a new elevated roadway 64 feet
above the existing deck. When
completed, the span’s roadway will
be 215 feet above the Kill Van Kull
waterway. The deck removal is
expected to be completed by fall
A ‘Maiden Voyage’
Executive Director Pat Foye
joined Port Commerce staff
this week for the start of
New York New Jersey Rail’s
operations between Brooklyn’s
65th Street rail yard and Greenville
Yard in Jersey City.
As part of the PA’s Cross Harbor
Freight Program, NYNJR increases
freight rail access to destinations
east of the Hudson River by floating
railcars on barges between New York
and New Jersey, thus reducing truck
traffic and pollution on local roads
and crossings.
Artist’s rendering of finished roadway project.
2015. The original project timeline
called for completion in mid-2016.
President Obama this week
included the Raise the Roadway
project in the Administration’s
We Can’t Wait initiative. The project is
expected to create more than 6,300
jobs, $380 million in wages, and
$1.6 billion in economic activity.
