AirTrain JFK Continues to Soar
“
AirTrain JFK has
exceeded our
every expectation
in its six years of
operation.”
Those were the
words of Chairman
Anthony R. Coscia
last month when the
automated guideway
transit system set a
new record with 5.3
million paying riders in
2009. Annual paying
passenger volume has
risen steadily every
year since the system opened
in 2004.
Including those who used it for
on-airport travel only, AirTrain JFK
The scene yesterday at AirTrain’s Jamaica Station, where several
customer amenities have been introduced recently, including a
Welcome Center.
accommodated 18 million riders
last year.
“Fast, cheap, reliable,” Executive
Director Chris Ward said. “There is
no better way to get to JFK.”
At EWR, a Meeting of Like Minds
Newark Liberty
International
month who were
interested in
identifying
airport best
practices in
operations, emergency response, and other areas from a communications perspective.
New Jersey Airports Deputy General Manager Huntley Lawrence (not pictured) opened
the meeting and was followed by EWR managers describing their areas of purview.
Attending were (from left) Chief Operations Supervisor Frank Loprano, Airport Maintenance
Employee Profile:
Maggi Villane
Title: Manager,
Aviation Customer
Care Programs.
Residence:
Eatontown, NJ.
Joined the PA:
April 2001.
Duties: “To ensure that the more
than 100 million customers who
travel through the Port Authority
airports have a good experience.”
Most challenging aspects: “There
are always challenges at the airports.
With more than 100 million customers,
you never know what will
happen on a daily basis. I hear from
more than 2,500 customers a year on
the good and the bad of the airport
experience. And with the new federal
regulations for security screening and
the new Flight Delay Passenger
Protection rules that will be in effect
very soon, there will be a service
impact on our customers.”
Personal interests: Traveling,
reading, and cooking.
Thoughts about the job:
“I think the Port Authority is a wonderful
place to work. It provides me with
opportunities and challenges that I
would not be able to experience
elsewhere. There are many talented
and dedicated people here and I
think that’s what makes it great.”
stuff up as we go along) went to retired
