This image is a rendering of a pancreatic
beta cell imaged at high resolution in
true 3D using whole cell tomography
with a transmission electron microscope.
As the first mammalian cell imaged in
its entirety at 15-20nm resolution, it
highlights how complex and crowded
the internal organisation of a cell can be.
