<strong>Robeson</strong> Early College says goodbye to Dr. Chrestman<br />

and hello to the next generation<br />

Dr. Chrestman was honored with a<br />

going away ice cream social by<br />

<strong>Robeson</strong> Early college students<br />

and staff February 26. Mr. Russell<br />

Evan Floyd (right) gave several<br />

words <strong>of</strong> thanks and gratitude on<br />

behalf <strong>of</strong> the students and staff <strong>of</strong><br />

ECHS to Dr. Chrestman for the<br />

years <strong>of</strong> help and support he has<br />

shown as we ventured into<br />

unfamiliar territories. Also<br />

commenting on Dr. Chrestmans<br />

support <strong>of</strong> ECHS was Mrs. Sheila<br />

Gasque, Principal <strong>of</strong> ECHS.<br />

When asked if he was packed up<br />

and ready to go Dr. Chrestman<br />

replied “I’m packed up and ready<br />

to fly.” Dr. Chrestman has been a<br />

tremendous source <strong>of</strong> support<br />

and encouragement to the<br />

students and staff at Early<br />

College. It was hard to hold back<br />

the tears as we said goodbye to a<br />

man, who to us, was a great<br />

person, a great friend, and a great<br />

source <strong>of</strong> help and inspiration.<br />

Early Colleges and to learn that<br />

our students are and want to be a<br />

part <strong>of</strong> something so great.<br />

Career Center Students Compete in SkillsUSA Conference<br />

On Friday, <strong>March</strong> 1, several <strong>of</strong> our Career Center students attended and competed in The Region IV<br />

SkillsUSA Conference at FTCC. All <strong>of</strong> our students attending represented our school and county in a most<br />

respectful and dignified manner. Region IV consist <strong>of</strong> 12 counties surrounding <strong>Robeson</strong> <strong>County</strong>. Fayetteville<br />

Tech was an excellent host.<br />

Rufo Garcia, a Networking student placed first in the Inter-networking Contest. Cameron Woods and his<br />

brother Kyle Woods, finished first and second respectively in the Residential Wiring Contest. Alejandro Cortez<br />

and James McCall finished first and second in the Welding Contest. Morris Currie, competed in the Carpentry<br />

contest and competed at a high level with more than 10 contestants in the contest. Harvey Manor placed<br />

fourth in the Computer Maintenance Technology competition<br />

In April, these students along with several others will be attending the NC SkillsUSA State Conference where<br />

more than 2000 high school students will compete in more than130 events that include Leadership and Skilled<br />

competitions. Industry persons, along with colleges from across the Southeast United States will be in<br />

Greensboro to view these young people performing at an unbelievable level <strong>of</strong> expertise and knowledge.<br />

SkillsUSA provides the engine that students can propel themselves into a very successful future, whether at a<br />

higher learning facility, or in the world <strong>of</strong> work. SkillsUSA, along with Trade and Industry curriculums, equip<br />

students with 21st Century skills that will ensure all <strong>of</strong> us that tomorrow's leaders will be well equipped with the<br />

skills America needs. Skills USA-"Champions at Work"...<br />
