Annexure 2: What Delegates Said 1.SHIV RAJ, Minister from Fiji, said that education of each and every individual Indian throughout the country and throughout the world is needed and PBD can be a good platform for facilitating such thought through the Diaspora Knowledge Network. 2. JAMSHED. J. J. PARDIWALLA, Chairman, Seychelles Chapter, NRI Institute was of the view that regional meets should be organised overseas but the main event on lesser scale (quality based than quantity based) should be in India, though alternatively in the Centre and the States. 3. NARENDER, a health consultant delegate, said that the Ministry could make the areas of knowledge sharing and linkages the way the Ministry would like to establish linkage but they have to be informed to the people of Indian origin. At various levels people are not aware of the developments and activities at the Ministry level, he pointed out and added that, probably, this could be a reason for their unwillingness to identify with the Ministry. People are a little sceptical of these linkages because they are not aware of possible ways in which this gets materialised, he said. The limitations are many on part of the Ministry. At foremost, the Ministry should make its stands visible, existence little dynamic. May be a ‘knowledge network’ could be of a great help, he said. 4. RAGHAVENDRA S. PRASAD, President, Telugu North American Association, and also a medical doctor, opined that PBD is a very good concept and the platform can be used in many ways. He cited tourism as an example. The tourists need not be foreigners but Indians abroad also. Though the PBD was poorly advertised this year, it was a great initiative, he said. 5. PREM MISIR, PRO-CHANCELLOR, Guyana University, said that there should be research on the cultural roots and cultural exchange should be facilitated. PBD can be a good platform to initiate it, he said. 6. CHARY L. CHIGURALA, a commercial strategist based in Australia, opined that PBD is something that the overseas Indians are very positive about and it should be organised alternatively in India and overseas. He said he was willing to coordinate and organise in case such an event is held in Australia. 7. IMTIAZ MUQBIL, an NRI journalist from Thailand, opined that sharing of knowledge will be a useful source of linkage with the home country and setting up proper information and communication channels for two way flow will be a great step forward. 8. SRIRAMA SHETTY, a consultant and general physician, said that MOIA need to establish a ‘think tank’ building members from major countries like U.S.A., U.K., Australia and other countries. 9. N.S. RAJENDDRAN said that PBD was a very good platform across the world. But, he said, still a lot of things needed to be done because. A lot of talk has been going on from last year and now, he said and added that he would like to see at least some of these things getting transformed into action. 55
