Papua New Guinea has managed to
survive as an independent state and
demonstrated acceptance and tolerance
among different minorities. The
acceptance of people of different and
varied cultural backgrounds can be
attributed several factors: increase in the
number of interracial marriages between
peoples of varying groupings; mobility of
peoples of different regions and linguistic
background ; success in sports like rugby
league; and the Tok Pisin language.
The close linguistic and cultural affinity
of the Melanesian people allowed them
to enjoy a very stable period of cordial
