The Gospel today is sometimes called “the
Gospel in miniature” because it so
concisely sums up the Gospel message. In
even more condensed form, “God loved…
God gave…” is the paradigm for
stewardship! We give because we love.
God our Father,
Bless these men, that they
may find strength as fathers.
Let the example of their faith
and love shine forth.
Grant that we,
their sons and daughters,
may honor them always
with a spirit of
profound respect.
Amen!
Thought for the Week...Sometimes we can get
stuck somewhere in life and settle into spiritual
apathy. It‘s called ‗arthritis of the soul‘. To prevent
such a condition, it is necessary to be open to
change and accept conversion. These are never
easy but they hold the secret to a happy life. By
entering into change and conversion we say that
the God who sustained us yesterday will still be
with us tomorrow. In the name of Faith-filled
growth we are challenged to let go of what we are
not in order to become what we are meant to be.
Heraclitus put it this way, ―You cannot step twice in
the same river, for other waters are ever flowing on
to you.‖
Infant Baptism Preparation… Next session
is Thursday, July 21 from 7:00– 8:15 p.m. in
the Holy Family Room. If you are planning to
present your child for Baptism, please contact the
Parish Office (847-1393) before July 21. Whenever
possible, try to have both parents attend the
preparation session.
Ushers Needed...We are in need of ushers for the
5:00 pm and 9:00 am Masses. It could be
male or female, adult or child. High School
students...what a great service project!
Parent/child teams ~ husband/wife teams...all are
this great ministry. For more information, contact
TO OUR SUMMER VISITORS AND GUESTS
We offer Liturgy of the Word for Children 4 years of
age to grade 5 during the 9:00 a.m. Mass on most
Sundays during the year. After the opening Prayer,
children are sent forth to break open God‘s Word
on an age-appropriate level. Children who have already
received First Eucharist will return for the
remaining Liturgy while younger children are free
to stay for specific activities that continue to explore
the Gospel Story. Parents may pick up their
children in the Parish Living Room or Welcoming
Center.
So how is your heart doing Yesterday (6/13) I was
at Mass at the Cathedral of St. Paul when I noticed an elderly
lady in a wheel chair. This lady was old, frail, and unable
to care for herself. Through asking questions, I learned
that one of her younger children is her primary caregiver,
and words cannot explain the graces that I witnessed
through that. This lady was totally reliant on her child to
help her stand, kneel, sit, and process forward to receive
the Eucharist (the daughter even had to hold her as she received
Jesus); she could do nothing on her own. I think I
need to repeat that for emphasis, she could do nothing on
her own; she was at the mercy of her child. Oh, the gentleness
that the child had for touching her mom.
Now look at your life (I don‘t care what your age is)
and think about how your heart is doing Does it feel heavy
or is it at peace Is it empty or filled with fire, or does it
simply feel content I stress the heart because that is
where Jesus wants to reside. He wants to make a
dwelling place within all of you. St. Augustine
stated, ―Our hearts are restless unless they rest in
You (You = God)‖.
Now think about the lady I met at church and place
yourself in her position (not physically, but on a frail and
dependent state) and change her daughter to Jesus. Our
lives need to be totally dependent on him taking care of us.
His touch will be gentle, His concern for us will be high, and
His love will be endless. Let his care and touch bring us to
the table where He will sacrifice His body for love.
