Spring Interlude
Dear Friend of the 10 th Annual Spring Interlude,
On behalf of Holy Rosary Catholic Community and the Spring Interlude committee, I would like to
thank you for donating to the Spring Interlude Event on Friday, April 29, 2011. Your support helped
us earn over $48,000 to provide funds for the music and art programs.
Spring Interlude was a terrific success. The newly remodeled Holiday Inn was bursting with the
happiness and energy of 220 guests. The event was festive with professional décor by Kathy Kath’s
brother, Robert Kramer, “The Life of the Party”, from St. Paul. He has created the environment for
ten years. Everyone in attendance had the opportunity to bid on some fun raffles and unique packages.
The show, “REWIND”, turned up some exceptional surprises. Holy Rosary Alumna, Miss Minnesota,
Kathryn Knuttila, and former Miss Minnesota, Kari Knuttila amazed the audience with their talent
when they played a spirited medley of pieces on gleaming, black twin grand pianos. We had past
guests from Dancing with the Stars, Friday Night Live and Spring-time in Paris. Finally, the evening
was topped off with music and dancing by the ever-popular Tim Eggebraaten.
Thank you for your support of the music and art programs at Holy Rosary Catholic Community. We
are truly blessed to have such kind and giving friends who support our programs.
With warmest blessings,
Terri Paskey
Providing a Quality Education for Each Child
Holy Rosary School is committed to helping all students reach their full potential in a nurturing and safe school. We put that
commitment into practice by earning accreditation from the Minnesota Nonpublic School Accrediting Association (MNSAA).
What does this mean to you It means you can rest assured that your students are receiving a quality education. It means that:
Students are taught by qualified teachers;
The curriculum is rigorous and integrated with best professional practices;
Our school complies with State of Minnesota guidelines for safety and well-being; and
Oversight is provided by a concerned governing body.
It means that the quality of our educational program is nationally recognized.
It means that we go beyond state requirements and hold ourselves accountable for meeting nationally recognized standards of
excellence. Holy Rosary School has been accredited by MNSAA for the eligibility period of 2009 to 2016.
Update of MNSAA Goals
Objective 1: Holy Rosary School will have plans that allow teachers time to learn about new technology to enhance the education of our
students. Each year the budget process includes funds to cover the resources needed to belong to the INFOCON consortium to
gain new technology and training for our teachers. Teachers are signed up to attend the Best Practices Work-shop on Technology
at Sacred Heart School in East Grand Forks in August of 2011.
Objective. 2: Holy Rosary School will have a plan to investigate meeting the need for support staff to direct the unique learning needs of
our students. This objective has been researched and Holy Rosary has become part of the District 22 Targeted Service sites. Mrs.
Burnside our third grade teacher has been hired through the Dist. 22 process to hold targeted services for students at our school.
We completed half a school year with this service in place and have heard positive comments from parents and students who have
sought this program. We plan to hold a three week summer program in August prior to the start of the next school year.
Objective 3: Holy Rosary School will research the availability of other tests to better assess the strengths and weaknesses of our students.
This objective has not yet been addressed and the Iowa Test of Basic Skills in currently used.
Objective 4: Holy Rosary School will develop a plan to obtain and retain students to our school program. Strategy 5 of this objective
was to study the feasibility of adding an electronic sign on Washington Avenue to display school and parish information to the
community of Detroit Lakes. The school board has researched this possibility and has presented some possibilities to the whole
parish family. It has been decided to include this item on the parish wish list. This will allow donors who are interested in supporting
this project to do so. We encourage our stakeholders to contact the school office to give us input on our progress and
help us vision for the future.
Iowa Testing Results for 2010-2011
The Iowa Test of Basic Skills is given to all students in grades Kindergarten through eight each year in February. Below is a comparison between the
February 2010 test and the February 2011 test. The comparison shows the growth each class has made from last year to this year in reading, language,
math and a composite of the test. Eighth grade results have exceeded 13+ possible scores in most areas.
