THE INTERACTIVE WEB CHANNEL, A NEW FACILITY ADDED TO THE SUMMIT WEBSITE THIS YEAR, WILL ACT AS AN EDITOR-MANAGED WEBLOG IN PREPARATION FOR AND DEVELOPMENT OF SUMMIT DISCUSSION TOPICS. www.globaltraveltourism.com/webchannel A new information exchange platform has been added to the Summit website this year, bringing with it a highly interactive way of presenting and gathering ideas, facts and data surrounding this year’s Summit programme. The Interactive Web Channel acts as an editor-managed weblog with the aim of preparing the ground for debate in the run up to the Summit panel sessions. The Channel is divided into thematic areas focusing on the key issues relevant to each individual session of the programme. The platform is initiated with quotes from lead contributors for the given session, as a catalyst and seed for discussion. The Channel is open to contributions from anyone and comments will be made live on the website via the Web Channel Editor. T h e Pro g r a m m e - Interac t i v e W e b Channel We plan to make our time in Lisbon even more productive than in past summits. The Leaders of Government Mr Nahas Angula is the third Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia since independence in March 1990, however he is the first Prime Minister under the country’s new leadership of President Hifikepunye Pohamba who took over from the founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma on 21st March 2005. Prior to being appointed Prime Minister, Mr Angula was the Minister of Higher Education, Training and Employment Creation which was formerly known as the Ministry of Higher Education, Vocational Training, Science and Technology. The Honourable Nahas Angula Prime Minister, Republic of Namibia He was a Member of the Constituent Assembly that drafted the country’s Constitution, which is today perceived as one of the best Constitutions across the globe. Born on August 22, 1943, Mr Angula holds MA and MED degrees from Columbia University in New York and a Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Zambia. Mr Angula was a winner of the Baxter Award for Best Student in the field of Education from the University of Zambia in 1972. The College of Prospectors of Britain awarded Mr Angula an honorary degree in 1996. T h e Leaders of Gov e r n m e n t The Honourable Osama Dabbas Minister of Tourism & Antiquities, The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan His Excellency Mr Osama Dabbas was appointed the Minister of Tourism & Antiquities on 22 November 2006. Mr Osama Dabbas started his professional life as a Managing Director in Taybet Zaman, Petra then becoming General Manager in Crown Plaza, Petra. He occupied the same position in Amman and he was the first Managing Director of the InterContinental Hotel in Aqaba after its inauguration in 2005. Osama was an active member of the Board of Directors of the Jordan Hotel Association and Jordan Tourism Board and with his new position as Minister of Tourism he has also become Chairman of the Jordan Tourism Board. In addition, Osama is the Deputy of the Royal Commission for the Baptism Site and he heads the Board of Directors of the Baptism Site and the Board of Trustees of Jordan Applied University of Hospitality & Tourism Education and the higher Steering Committee of the Tourism Sector Development Project. His working experience is varied; he was a member of the Board of Directors for Saraya Aqaba, a member of the Board of Directors for Zara Investment Company, a member of the Superior Council for Youth and a member of the Superior Council for Tourism. Mitch Landrieu Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana, USA Mitch Landrieu was inaugurated the 56th Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana in January of 2004. When Landrieu took office, his concept was simple - build a streamlined and efficient organization that eliminated bureaucracy, created better opportunities, focused on results and was accountable to citizens. As Lt Governor, Landrieu is responsible for rebuilding tourism, the state’s second largest industry. Immediately after hurricanes Katrina and Rita ravaged southeast and southwest Louisiana, Landrieu brought together industry leaders and national experts to develop a strategic plan, Louisiana Rebirth: Restoring the Soul of America. As a result of this initiative, the tourism industry is speaking with one voice and hitting the marks established in the strategic plan.
