What We Do (Our Mandate) Functions of the Fund include the following: • Encouraging greater involvement of employers in developing and organising training programmes and establishment of facilities for training, including Group Training Schemes and Centres in all areas of economic activity • Building training facilities of its own, in identified areas of the nation’s needs • Engendering training consciousness in employers of Labour • Providing <strong>Nigeria</strong>ns with sufficient highly Skilled Labour force • Establishing training facilities in identified areas of National interest in form of Area Officesand Skills Centres • Organising Research and studies into training as a support to other activities of the Fund • Establishing a uniform National Vocational Apprenticeship Training Scheme in the Country • Harmonising of non-formal Training Programmes with the curricula of formal educational Institutions • Bearing a proportion of the direct cost of On-the-job and Off-the-job training of <strong>Nigeria</strong>n employees • Providing Students of tertiary Institution with practical Skills through the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Management Efforts at Transforming the Existing Organisational Culture and Values in the Industrial Training Fund 49
