12 1960-70s John Slovisky ’60 and several siblings – David ’63, Barbara ’73 and David’s wife, Sally Webster Slovisky, participated in “The Legend” run/walk half-marathon in East Lansing, Mich., in August. Each placed third in their respective age groups. John is a retired history teacher from Talawanda High School in Oxford and a frequent substitute teacher at Badin. David lives in Lander, Wyoming and Barbara in East Lansing, Mich. Jim Tracy ’74 resigned as the manager of the Colorado Rockies. Tracy compiled a record of 294- 308 in nearly four seasons as manager of the Rockies. He was the National League Manager of the Year in 2009, when he took over the Rockies in May and guided them into the playoffs. He has previously managed the Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates. Terry Owen ’76 has opened a business on Hamilton Avenue in College Hill, suburban Cincinnati, called Silk Road Textiles. The business offers fine fabric and yarn from around the world, and caters to experienced quilters, fiber artists, knitters and crocheters. Owen says her goal is to make the business “a community gathering place.” Owen recently retired from a 30-year teaching career, including two years as a Peace Corps volunteer, 10 at Seton High School and 15 in the Finneytown district. 1980-90s Mike Kerrigan ‘80 is chairman of the Outback Bowl, the Jan. 1 college football bowl game in Tampa, Fla., that pits teams from the Big Ten Conference and the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Kerrigan is an account executive with WTOG-CW,, channel 44 in Tampa, and has been involved with the bowl for 25 years. He has served on the bowl’s Board of Directors since 2002. Jim Schaffer ’84 gets a great big “Thank you!” from Badin High School students and staff! When it came time to put the compressors for the new $450,000 air conditioning system on the roof of the school in June, Jim was running the crane that made it happen. Badin is now a much more comfortable place to go to school! Julie Marie Hassett ’88 has released her independent film, “Joy”, five years after making the movie in and around Jungle Jim’s market in Fairfield. Julie co-wrote, directed and starred in the film, which was inspired by the deaths of her father, Robert, and her sister, Elizabeth Joy Weitz ’97. The film is about discovering “the meaning of life and finding joy again,” Hassett told the Cincinnati Enquirer in 2007. It is available through Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble book sellers. Hassett is married and lives in Los Angeles. Craig Bucheit ’94 has been named a captain in the Hamilton, Ohio, police force, the number two post in the department. He and his wife, Angie Briggs Bucheit ’95, are the parents of four children. Angie is a counselor at Badin High School. Kim Pohlman Tavares ’94 received her master’s degree in business from Miami University. 2000-10s Caitlin Wolf Huxel ‘00 is teaching 6th grade Language Arts at Talawanda Middle School in Oxford. Marilyn McAllister ’00 graduated in May from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn., with a master of arts degree in industrial/organizational psychology. She lives in Nashville, Tenn. Zach Marcum ‘02 was named the 2012 Rising Star of the Year at the 2012 Next- Generation Pharmacist awards event in San Diego, Calif. The Next- Generation is a national program that honors pharmacists who define the future of the industry. Zach is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating with a PharmD from Butler University, Zach joined the faculty at Pitt and also earned a master’s degree in geriatrics. He’s currently pursuing a PhD in clinical and translational science. Jeremy Hammond ’04 is now working for WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment, handling event and promotional activities as well as their Make A Wish partnership. He was on hand July 30 at US Bank Arena in Cincinnati for a WWE smackdown. Jeremy previously was the events coordinator at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Thomas Koch ’04 is currently a captain in the United States Marine Corps, serving as a company commander of a combat engineering battalion in Afghanistan. A 2008 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, this is Thomas’ second tour of duty in Afghanistan in the last two years. He is the son of Roger ’68 and Carol Koch of Oxford, and brother to three other Badin grads – Paula ’06, Robert ’08 and James ’11. Beth Lagergren ’05 is a nurse practitioner at Children’s Hospital in Columbus. She earned her undergrad degree in exercise science from Miami University, and her master’s degree at Ohio State. Mandy Hessling ’07 was in Honduras with the University of Cincinnati on a health services mission. She is completing her doctorate in pharmacy. Whitney Mueller ’09 interned with the Cincinnati Reds this summer, primarily working in the Reds’ Hall of Fame. She is a senior at the College of Mount St. Joseph, majoring in sports management and marketing, and is a member of the golf team. Sydnee Fields ’10 was voted captain of the Xavier University women’s soccer team. Sydnee is majoring in premedicine. She is a dean’s list student and an Atlantic-10 Conference all-academic selection. Nick Sciulli ’11 has been the ball boy on the rightfield line for the Cincinnati Reds throughout the 2012 season. Sciulli sent an e-mail to the Reds wondering how those jobs were filled – and it just so happened that a job was open! Sciulli does numerous other things helping prepare the Reds lockerroom and dugout before the game, then takes his place in the field. A former pitcher for the Badin baseball team, Nick is a sophomore at Miami University-Hamilton. Nick Seither ‘11 enjoyed a lineman’s dream during a football game for Georgetown College on Saturday, Oct. 13. Nick picked up a fumble with two minutes to play and raced 25 yards for the game-winning touchdown as Georgetown defeated Cumberland, 41-35. Seither, a sophomore, plays defensive end for Georgetown, one of the top-rated NAIA football teams in the country.
