ANZAC DAY SERVICE
The service commemorating ANZAC DAY will be held at the
Culverden Community Centre on Monday 25 th April at
10.30am.
As part of this service there will be a dedication of the
pergolas which have been built in place of the ANZAC trees
which had to be removed. Morning tea in the Community
Room will follow the service. Please bring a plate.

FROM THE VICAR – QUESTIONS THAT HEAL it's
interesting to note how many times after his resurrection
Jesus introduced Himself to people by asking them
questions. Good Friday had left a mess, and Jesus was
systematically dealing with the consequences of chaos in
the lives of His friends by provoking them to respond to
His presence. Jesus' question for Mary Magdalene, 'Why
are you crying’ (John20:13) targeted her 'pain' .His
question for the two men on the road to Emmaus, 'What
are you discussing ....'Don't you understand' (Luke
24:17-25) targeted their 'confusion'. His question to the
disciples; 'Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise
in your minds' (Luke 24:38) targeted their 'crisis of faith'.
And then He cooked breakfast for Peter and asked him a
question that targeted his 'guilt': 'Do you truly love me'
(John 21:15) The journey through Maundy Thursday,
Good Friday and Holy Saturday will create a mess in
your life as well. But Jesus loves you too much to leave
you for long in pain, confusion, doubt, or a state of
unbelief. He wants to help you deal with your
disappointments. Dealing with pain, perhaps your
experiences of unanswered prayer have left you hurting
and disorientated like Mary Magdalene. If so, He asks
you the question He asked her and me at times: 'Why
are you crying' So tell him! Lament, rant, if you need to.
And when you are done, stop and hear the way He
speaks your name. When we suffer, Jesus comes with
questions to refine and enhance our humanity. He of all
people understands that this process of dealing with the
mess created by our disappointments in prayer can hurt
terribly. He knows that without His help, we will become
bitter not better, and that we will lick our wounds like a
dog or curl up in a ball of self protection like a hedgehog.
But if, like Mary, we will continue to worship, even at the
grave of everything we ever believed in, our grief will turn
to gold. The greatest miracle in the world - greater than
any healing or any revelation - is the grace unleashed by
a life refined through suffering. It is a grace that was first
released when Jesus endured abandonment and death
so that Mary Magdalene, and millions since, might
receive a living hope that can no longer die. A VERY
HAPPY LIBERATING EASTER TO YOU ALL!!! So fancy
a yarn or a flat white Taking cake or muffin orders,
maybe even a pie to order So if you need to get
something off your chest the Vicarage door is an open
door or I'll come to you Warmest Blessings and prayers

next Podiatry Clinic at the Health Centre on Thursday 28 th

Ian Buchanan from ‘Buchanan Optometrists’ will be
holding a clinic at the Health Centre on Thursday 26 th May
2011.
As well as vision assessments and optical dispensing he

• Driver’s vision assessments
• Police vision assessments
• Employee Eye Examinations
• Now able to provide free of charge eye
examinations and free spectacles (from a
selected range) for children under 16 who have a
community services card.

Why are we promoting this
• Children and young people are vulnerable to Influenza
and present the greatest risk of spreading the disease
in the community.
• Preventing Influenza will reduce the amount of time
missed from school especially as the school year has
already had a major disruption.
• Any reduction in influenza rates potentially prevents
hospital admissions, particularly important this year
with reduced bed numbers.
• The people of Canterbury will be more exposed to
cold, overcrowding and stress making them more
vulnerable to Influenza.
COMMUNITY CONSULTATION MEETING
As the completion date for the new Health Centre
approaches, we felt it would be timely to invite everyone
to a Community Consultation Meeting, which will be held
at the Rotherham Hall on Wednesday 4 th May at 7pm.
We would like to share our vision for future health care in
the Amuri, and to discuss current and future services.
Most importantly, we would like to seek your feedback,
and hear your ideas as to how we can continue to service
your needs.
So please, come along and have a say in the future of your
Health Centre.
