Roles under <strong>CLP</strong><br />
The obligati<strong>on</strong>s placed <strong>on</strong> a supplier of substances or mixtures under <strong>CLP</strong> will mostly<br />
depend up<strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir role towards a substance or mixture in <strong>the</strong> supply chain. It is<br />
<strong>the</strong>refore most important that you identify your role under <strong>CLP</strong>.<br />
To identify your role, read <strong>the</strong> five different descripti<strong>on</strong>s set out in Table 2.1, which are<br />
based <strong>on</strong> <strong>CLP</strong> Article 2. For fur<strong>the</strong>r clarificati<strong>on</strong>s in relati<strong>on</strong> to <strong>the</strong> roles of<br />
“downstream user” or “distributor”, you may c<strong>on</strong>sult <strong>the</strong> “<str<strong>on</strong>g>Guidance</str<strong>on</strong>g> for downstream<br />
users” <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>ECHA</strong> website (http://guidance.echa.europa.eu/guidance_en.htm).<br />
Where a descripti<strong>on</strong> matches your activities, your role under <strong>CLP</strong> is set out to <strong>the</strong> right<br />
of that descripti<strong>on</strong>. Please read each of <strong>the</strong> descripti<strong>on</strong>s carefully as you may have<br />
more than <strong>on</strong>e role under <strong>CLP</strong>.<br />
Please note that <strong>CLP</strong> obligati<strong>on</strong>s to classify, label and package are generally linked to<br />
<strong>the</strong> supply of substances or mixtures. However, independent of any supply,<br />
classificati<strong>on</strong> is also relevant for <strong>the</strong> correct preparati<strong>on</strong> of a registrati<strong>on</strong> or notificati<strong>on</strong><br />
for <strong>the</strong> purposes of REACH. This guidance should <strong>the</strong>refore also serve those<br />
preparing such submissi<strong>on</strong>s under REACH. Labelling and packaging obligati<strong>on</strong>s are<br />
generally not relevant when a registrati<strong>on</strong> or notificati<strong>on</strong> is prepared for <strong>the</strong> purposes<br />
of REACH but no supply is taking place.<br />
