involved with the Red Earth Arts
Festival (REAF) since its inception.
In a short amount of time we’ve
seen REAF grow into a spectacular
community event that has
something for everyone. This year
we’re delighted to have Rio Tinto join
us as co-principal sponsor.

development of arts and culture
across the Shire of Roebourne in
recognition of our communities’
diverse needs. Working sustainably

outside the Perth metropolitan area.

Throughout September the third
annual Red Earth Arts Festival will
bring a first-class arts and cultural
programme to the region that would
rival that of any other major city in
the world.

festival that boasts a stimulating
line up of workshops, activities and
performances that will form the
2012 REAF.
From MC workshops and comedy
shows to dramatic performances
and film nights, the 2012 REAF will
set the region alight with creativity,
culture and excitement as artists
from around the world, and around
the corner, descend on the region to
entertain and engage you with three
weeks of wondrous programmes.
Art plays an integral role in the
history of our nation, in shaping
our community and expressing our
unique identity. From story-telling to
evoking emotion, art has the power
to challenge the way we think, feel
and learn. Expressions of creativity
can define who we are as people and
as a community. This year’s festival
will proudly showcase the diversity
of cultures, experiences and
backgrounds represented by our
vibrant community.
Rio Tinto is committed to the
development of arts and culture
in the Pilbara and last year
we invested more than $1.4
million towards arts and cultural
programmes in the region. This
significant investment enabled
the engagement of individuals and
groups in creative workshops,
events and festivals and increased
opportunities for local artists
through exhibitions.

in the exciting repertoire of events
hosted throughout the festival, take
