Overview of applications in 2010
The following figure is an overview of the expected state of development of different
applications of thin films in year 2010. Data for the preparation of the figures in this
section has been gathered from the experts participating in the Delphi panel.
After five years many more applications will have come into fruition. A good number
of the potential applications currently considered will most probably be entering into
first commercial applications, with some of them already approaching the mass
production phase.
Basic R&D Applied R&D First Applications Mass production
Other applications that may have entered the funnel in 2010 include (but are not
limited to) portable complex bioanalysis equipment (perhaps already in the applied
research stage), LED lighting or packaging materials.
