FLAMENCO WORKSHOP
As part of our Music activities, last
14 th of February the 2 ESO class went
to a flamenco workshop in San Pedro
de Alcántara. It was an enriching
educational experience for our
students and gave them the chance to
know more about flamenco; one of
the Masterpieces of the Oral and
Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Mr. M. Fernandez – Arts Department
PET WORLD
Kindergarten have been enjoying
learning about looking after and
caring for their pet animals; bathing
them, feeding them, playing with
them, taking them for walks and
taking them to the Vet. We even have
a Vet Clinic in our playground!
We have also been learning about all
the different sounds that animals
make, so if you hear a tiger in the
corridor, do not be afraid, it will be
Kindergarten practicing their sounds!
Mrs. C. T. Clark – Kindergarten
thousand of those books were
destined for use by primary and
secondary school aged children.
extra sweetness to these moreish St
Valentines favourites. Students plan
to give these Valentines treats to their
parents, friends and teachers over the
remainder of the week.
During the day pupils will design book
covers, pupils will visit other classes to
read together, participate in an interhouse
book quiz and contribute to a
Class book, which will be displayed in
the Library following World Book Day.
We are looking forward to a fun day
celebrating our love of books and
reading.
Mrs. V. Hurst - Primary Literacy Coordinator
As John Paul Young once sang, “Love
is in the Air” at Laude San Pedro
International College as students
studying Food Technology from Years
7 – 10 prepared and cooked jam
filled butter biscuits, also known as
“sables” in class this St Valentine’s
Week.
These traditional French cookies were
made using a heart shaped cutter and
when baked, sandwiched together
Here we see Year 9 with their final
products. Congratulations everyone
on a job well done!
Mr. R. Ellis – Technology Department
On Thursday 2 March, Year 5 went to
the Picasso Museum in Malaga to
study the art of Pablo Picasso as part
of our “Express yourself” topic.
We were given a guided tour, which
gave us lots of opportunities to share
our ideas about the paintings we saw.
We enjoyed looking at how Picasso
often paints his subjects in very
unusual ways! The Year 5 children
asked a lot of very thoughtful
questions and Mrs Hurst and Mrs
Backwell were very impressed with
the mature attitude our pupils
showed.
We are now feeling very inspired to
create our own amazing works of art!
Mrs. V. Hurst and Mrs. R. Backwell -
Year 5
Primary´s Boys Football
teams Triumph!
There was nothing romantic about
our Primary boys’ approach to their
Valentine’s Day fixture against Swans
Primary School. In the combined Year
3 and 4 team, Luis Santiago scored a
first half hat-trick, Ronan O’Mahoney
contributed 4 brilliant goals and Year
3’s Alvaro Fernandez, rose above the
opposition to score with a great
header.
The Year 5’s followed their school
mates’ example, and the fortunate
spectators were again treated to
some wonder-goals by Manuel
Venegas, Marco Mutavdzic, Jeremy
Albouhair, (2), and confidently leading
up front Alexander Andrason scoring
4 superb goals.
Basketball Tournament
The Key Stage 3 Inter-House
Basketball Tournament got off to a
great start with students from each
House showing good standard of skill
Edited by: Mr. C. Marchand - Head of Secondary
and some excellent individual
performances.
The matches played were filled with
great excitement, with all our boys
and girls showing first class passes
and magnificent dribbling. It was
wonderful to see so many students
supporting their house teams and
showing great enthusiasm and
enjoyment. We at Laude encourage
all our pupils to participate in a wide
variety of competitions where
students experience team spirit and
gain a sense of achievement. Well
done to House Earth who put up a
great fight to be crowned KS3 Inter-
House Basketball champions.
LAUDE´S GARDENS
This month in Natural Sciences in ESO
2, we have studied the structure of
Ecosystems. We have identified its
components and understood some of
the relationships that exist between
its inhabitants. We´ve also learned to
classify living things according to their
roles. The use of graphics and
statistics have helped us to realise
that between the different levels of
living things there exist more links
than we could think of at first. To
understand this a little bit better, we
decided to visit our nearest
ecosystem, Laude’s gardens. We
planned to make observations and
take notes to create atrophic
pyramids and networks. These tools
would show us the various species
that live beyond the windows of our
classrooms, and the inhabitants’
proportion in each atrophic level.
What we have found is that in our
little ecosystem there is a great
biodiversity, well maintained by our
gardener Miguel, where we can find
ornamental producers like the
Pitosporo from China or the Tropical
Lantana; or representatives of our
Mediterranean forest, like the Oak,
Cork Oak and Wild Olive trees; there
are also consumers, like the Asian
palm weevil; birds such as Gulls,
Finches or Greenfinches (Embernagra
platensis); reptiles like Lizards or
mammals such as small moles
(Arvicolinae) and Cats. The widest
level of the trophic pyramid of
numbers belongs to the group of
producers (plants), followed by
primary consumers (insects, mollusks,
moles, birds…), secondary consumers
(Lizards, Ladybirds, birds…) and
tertiary consumers (Cats, European
mantis, Gulls…), in this order.
Congratulations, guys, for your
successful expedition.

Mr. A. Gomez – Spanish Department
Because he finished with me
He and me were a ´WE´
Now I sit and cry, I have lost a big
part”
By Kristina Tryapkina, Year 8 Induction
Inspired by The Guardian´s children´s
Valentine's Day limerick competition,
Year 7 and 8 students wrote
Valentine´s Day
Love
Limericks
They had good fun playing with
rhyming words and creating their own
limericks. Some were funny, some
were sad and some ended up just
plain crazy!!! Here are some examples
There once was a strange-looking boy
Who loved a girl called Roy!!
But the day that they met
She didn´t fall in love with him, not
yet!
Until he inspired her with joy
Year 7 Induction, Gabriel Richter
There once was a girl and her name
was Pearl
One day when she whirled, she
whirled and whirled
And she crashed into a boy
When she looked into his eyes she got
a surprise
And together they twirled and twirled
and twirled.
By Kristina Gracheva, Year 7 Induction
There once was a good looking boy
She said to him ”I love you, O Roy!”
He said to her “Oh really. Me too!!!”
And together they walked under the
moon
But later she met another good
looking boy and that was the end of
Roy!!
By Kateryna Prusova, Year 8 Induction
I think you will agree they did well,
especially considering some of these
students just started this term! Love is
clearly inspiring Happy Valentine´s
Day!
Ms. P. Butler – English Department
Last Wednesday, 13 th February, 10
Laude students in years 7 & 8 took
part in the first Costa del Sol
Interschool Quiz.
Our students did a wonderful job and
proudly represented Laude. In the
individual quiz round, our students
did incredibly well: a total of 140
students were entered for this
competition and 3 of our students
made us particularly proud: Antonio
Leon came 8 th , Gabriel Woods
(pictured below) came 12 th and Jade
There once was a girl with a broken
heart
Who said “I was dying inside with
hurt”
