is for our year 7 students. Results will
be given in the next issue!

This week our year 8 students were
working on composing musical
variations on a theme. They started
by notating some ideas on manuscript
paper and playing them in keyboards.
In the picture we have Dylan and Lee
jamming on the keyboard.
Miss M. O´Reilly – Arts Department
This week the Maths Department has
sent out invitations to schools along
the Costa to take part in LAUDE’s 2 nd
Maths Olympiad on Thursday 24 th
November. After the huge success of
last year’s competition, we are
already looking forward to putting
together another fun-packed event
for those budding Mathematicians
amongst us.

During these first 4 weeks of the
Maths course, second year
Bachilierato students have been
looking at and studying the world of
the matrix and determinants. Though
it is a new topic for them, I believe
that they have understood it well and
they have produced good work. We
can only wish them the best of luck
for their up-coming exam!

Year 8 students have been asked to
do some research this week. They
have been learning about basic
historical concepts such as
chronology, interpretation and
sources and they have been asked to
name their favourite historical figure.
They will have to explain why their
chosen individual should have a
plaque put up in their honour and
produce a display that will be shown
in class. Marks will be given for
neatness, presentation and clarity.
Students in one of the year 10
Business Studies classes have been
researching franchises this week.
They had to choose a franchise, after
considering the possible options on
franchise websites. They then
reported back on what their chosen
franchise business sells, how much it
would cost to set up and what
support they would get from the
franchisor. Above are some of the
franchises they would like to set up.
Year 10 obviously have food on their
mind!

Y 8 Design & Technology class is
creating something to wear for
themselves. They have been
introduced to tie and dye technique,
making a pattern for their design, cut
out and assemble together. The result
will be issued soon, as soon as they
finish stitching. A very enthusiastic
class indeed!
Mrs. U. Schroeter – Arts Department
In English lessons, Year 9 students are
currently involved in a “ghost and
Ghouls” project and exploring gothic
literature ranging from Mary
Shelley´s Frankenstein to
contemporary authors. The lessons
designed around this topic provide
exciting opportunities for them to
develop their imaginations and
descriptive writing skills. During
drama lessons they have devised their
own scripts and performed a range of
creepy tales.

Mr. S. Ortiz – Head of MFL
Year 10 students recently built their
own models of the Earth as part of
the new ‘Core Science’ GCSE course.
Theme 1: My Wider World involves
studying the structure of the Earth,
tectonic plate movements and
evolution of the atmosphere. As you
can see the outcome of this
homework activity was very
impressive; show-casing not only the
students’ understanding of the topic
but their creativeness and ingenuity
too.

Department
Another exciting week in MFL! This
week in French classes, year 7
students have been practicing their
pronounciation. Their linguistic
abilities were put the test when faced
with the most challenging tongue
twisters the French language has to
offer! Parents too can join in the fun

Another very enjoyable outing this
week with Laude´s Ride N´Roll Cycling
Club. Max and Ralph Jagtenberg, Jack
Nelson and Christopher Marsin were
this week´s star cyclists, managing
the 25 Kilometre return journey to
Marbella in a record time. Well done
Boys!
