Celebrate Celtic music Sunday
Bagpiper Bob Leslie of
Bryan will headline the
April 18 celebration of Celtic
music at First Presbyterian
Church in Bridgeport.
The free concert is at 3
p.m. at the church, 1307
Newby. The public is invited
to bring a canned food
donation for the Wise Area
Relief Mission.
Leslie will be joined on
the program by several
musicians who will perform
music from Scotland, Ireland
and Wales. He will play three
different types of bagpipes
and will perform “Amazing
Grace” for the processional
and recessional.
The program also includes
Tony Harveson, piano; Linda
Kennedy, vocals; June Lewis,
piano; April Cowling, violin
and fiddle; Sharon Curry,
vocals; Jason Curry, guitar;
Mishi Schumann Juarez,
flute; Carmelina Holloway,
harp; and John Hollis, vocals
and guitar.
Also on the program are
The HeartStrings dulcimer
group with Russell Blanton,
Carolyn Dent, Van Gardner,
Carolyn Marlett, Carolyn
Moody, Jo Ann Sheen,
Shirley Stack, Darla St.
John and Jerry St. John.
David Curry and Casey
Jones will provide readings,
with Curry as the voice
of Robert Burns. Diane
Oswald will entertain as
a story teller and Emily
and Keaton Harveson will
portray leprechauns.
Leslie is pastor emeritus of
First Presbyterian Church
in Bryan. He was a member
of the faculty of the Texas
A&M University College of
Medicine from 1990 to 2004.
He served two pastoral
exchanges in Scotland.

ompeted at the SkillsUSA Texas Leaderhip
and Skills Conference March 25-27 in
orpus Christi and came home with awards
n several categories.
Cassidy Drevicky’s motorcycle project and
ric Pedroza and Juan Martinez’s speaker
ox project were both rated “superior,” while
he speaker box was named best of show.
Michael Darrow placed third in automoive
manual drive train.
Marisol Banuelos was third in the First
Aid/CPR.
The Knowledge Quiz Bowl team of Ariel
Salinas, Harminder Singh, Crystal Morris,
Nicole Sellers, Ricky Samono and Oscar Rivera
advanced to the top eight.
The opening and closing presentation team
of Ethan Alexander (president), Ariel Salinas
(vice president), Megan Kirklelie (secretary),
Ricky Samano (treasurer), Summer Miller
(reporter), Oscar Rivera (parliamentarian),
Ethan Webb (chaplain) and Bryan Ripolio
(alternate) received second place honors.
Also competing were Tim Russey in extemporaneous
speaking, Cole Selby in First
Aid/CPR and Clint Padilla and Scott Rowe in
Brakes and Automotive Quiz Bowl.
