9. EARLY INTERVENTION TRAINING PROGRAMME
for stakeholders conducting Early Intervention/School Readiness
Programme for Children with Sensory multiple disabilities and Autism
Spectrum Disorders
9.1 Disabilities that are covered under the National Trust Act are developmental
disabilities in the sense that such special children either miss out or have delayed
developmental milestones in their lives. The key to this problem is therefore to help
such children before it is too late - the sooner the better. It is also important for
parents to be aware on the importance and techniques of early intervention and for
NGOs to build their capacities to carry out such training programmes for parents.
9.2 In order to build the capacity and skill of NGOs to train parents in the techniques of
early intervention, so far 17 training programmes have been conducted including 2
during the year for NGOs in collaboration with the Voice and Vision, a Mumbai based
organization and a unit of Hilton Perkins, USA on Multiple Disabilities and Com
Deall Trust, Bangalore on Autism Spectrum Disorders at various places including -
Gwalior, Shimla, Gaya, Agartala, Raipur, Vijaynagaram, Jamshedpur, Dehradun,
