20. 10 th Annual General Meeting
20.1 The 10 th Annual General Meeting of National Trust was one of consolidation wherein
we looked back at our achievements and hurdles and thought of our future, and how
should we go forward. The event was organized at Vishwa Yuvak Kendra,
Chanakyapuri, New Delhi on 10 th September 2010. Chairperson Mrs Poonam Natarajan
welcomed the stakeholders and other dignitaries and presented the annual report
2009-10 highlighting various achievements, the streamlining of our programmes, more
scientific reporting, the need of awareness creation - the huge success of Badhte
Kadam-I.
It followed the inauguration of E3 Challenge. Also there was the launch of Multimedia
Kit for parents of persons with multiple disabilities by Shri D Napoleon, Hon’ble
Minister of State, SJ&E. He then presented the National Trust Annual Awards. In
his concluding speech he applauded the spirit of the awardees and the heights they
have reached in their respective areas. He had a word of praise for parents of PwDs
who have untiringly been with their children irrespective of their disability. He also
felt that the Multimedia Kit should be translated not only into Hindi but in other
regional languages also.
20.2 The second session of the meeting was devoted to eminent speakers. Mr Ashwin
Chandrasekharan of Invention Labs who has developed a device AVAZ which breaks
the barriers of communication for people with cerebral palsy, multiple disability or
people having problem in oral communication. He explained how people with
impaired speech can now communicate like all others.
20.3 Ms Merry Barua spoke about identifying Autism, the path taken in our country and
the latest developments in the field. Ms Helen spoke about the latest research plans
for Intellectual Disabilities and formation of NAPKID. Ms Pushpa Aman Singh of
GuideStar India talked about Governance and Transparency.
20.4 All these presentations were aimed at enlightening our stakeholders about the growth
of technology and the developments in our field.
20.5 The meeting then moved on to the open forum, in which several queries from the
audience were addressed. The event concluded with the vote of thanks.
