It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a—firefighter Heroes are most often
known as having super powers and possessing selfless qualities
that average humans don’t have.
Yet, heroes surround us every day. Perhaps they are not the caped, tightwearing
super-humans we grew up wanting to be, but heroes nonetheless.
Problems in society are still solved by hard-working, average people.
Firefighters and health care professionals are consistently saving the lives of
others and sometimes even putting their own lives on the line to do so.
At Laramie County Community College, some students are working to
become heroes in every class of every semester. [See story on Pages 20–21.]
The career fields they’ve chosen make it evident they want to help others and
create a better tomorrow for everyone.
LCCC students come from various backgrounds and one particular fire
science student came to LCCC for one reason: He wants to protect his home
country of Albania. [See story on Page 22.]
Some of the LCCC security guards have had their hours cut, leaving our
local campus heroes thwarted and unable to qualify for benefits. [See editorial
on Page 10.]
When tragedy strikes, and you set that paper too close to the coffee pot,
you can’t call superman, but a hero will respond.
