Offender outcomes<br />
Finally, we consider outcomes 23 in relation to<br />
the offender population. The key objective of<br />
policy in this sector is to reduce re-offending,<br />
and a major purpose of the OASys instrument<br />
is to collect data on risk factors for reoffending.<br />
Figure 15 shows that there is a strong<br />
relationship between risk of reoffending and<br />
<strong>SMD</strong>, with the ‘High’ and ‘Very High’ risk<br />
categories proportionately much larger in the<br />
<strong>SMD</strong>2 and <strong>SMD</strong>3 cases than for those people in<br />
the <strong>SMD</strong>1 (offending only) group.<br />
