4.000-8.000 pairs bred Turkey (Tucker & Heath 1994), making the country by far the most<br />
important breeding site in the region. However, a strong decrease have takes place in especially<br />
<strong>Central</strong> Ana<strong>to</strong>lia caused by habitat destruction such as overgrazing, increasing salt extraction and<br />
upstream irrigation systems (probably the most important fac<strong>to</strong>r). The species seems freely hunted.<br />
Following breeding season (late June), up <strong>to</strong> 4000+ gathers Ercez Gölü (Grunwell 2005).<br />
