Found in conifereous forest, especially pine forest (of Pinus brutus) in slightly hilly country,<br />
mainly 1000-2500 m., but frequently down <strong>to</strong> 500 m.<br />
Breeds around approximately western half of Turkey, with a population in Pontic Mountains<br />
probably seperated <strong>from</strong> the southern population. The birds at Cam Gecedi are found in the forest at<br />
a military checkpoint. Here, show the soldiers your bird-guide, and you are normally allowed <strong>to</strong><br />
walk at a track for some hundreds meters. This is the site. In 2006 we found a pair in a nest-box,<br />
which in 2007 was overtaken by Common Redstart.<br />
