Several thousand pairs breeds scattered throughout Turkey. On migration in NE Pontics, max. 41 in<br />
spring and 189 in autumn (Shirihai et al. 2000).<br />

Migrant in varying numbers. In autumn, day-counts of several thousands in as well Burgas<br />
(Bulgaria) and Northern Israel indicates heavy passage through <strong>Central</strong> and Southern Turkey, with<br />
potential large concentrations at Adana region. Spring migration generally follows a more westerly<br />
route across the Mediterranean, with thousands passing Sicily, but as indicated by our 2006<br />
observations, large concentrations occur irregularly in Turkey, mainly following periods of bad<br />
migration weather. In NW Turkey several thousands sometimes seen late May.<br />

An unidentifyed Hobby/Eleonora´s Falcon seen 25.5 Kiji Restaurant, Birezik.<br />
10-100 pairs breeds Turkey, mainly offshore islands in the west. Along SE coast regular in spring<br />
Göksu Delta, probably hunting birds <strong>from</strong> Cyprus. 2 claimed Ibis Wadi, Birezik May 2007.<br />

A rather widespread breeder with population between 500 and 2000 pairs, mainly in mountain<br />
areas throughout the country. Represented by the rather small and dark ssp. brookei; the large and<br />
often pale tundra breeding <strong>from</strong> calidus, which in many cased are plumagewise closer <strong>to</strong> Barbary<br />
Falcon (but almost invariable larger) and - more serious <strong>to</strong> Saker Falcon - must migrate through<br />
Turkey, and possible winters regularly. Luckily, in flight these often tricky birds are true Peregrines,<br />
showing rather uniform underwing and short broad arm against long. Pointed wings, differing <strong>from</strong><br />
the evenly broader wings with longer arm and rounder, fuller wing-tip (as well as clearly bicoloured<br />
underwing in all (but pale adult) Saker Falcons (Corso & Malling Olsen in prep.).
