Cold chain management in <strong>India</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers huge growth opportunity. <strong>The</strong> fruit and<br />

vegetable business in <strong>India</strong> is almost entirely in the unorganized sector and is worth<br />

an estimated ~INR200b. Trade is carried on primarily on credit. Almost 35% <strong>of</strong> the<br />

fruits and vegetables produced perish due to lack <strong>of</strong> cold chain and distribution<br />

infrastructure. Farm sizes are small and farmers sell their produce at nearby markets/<br />

mandis. Almost the entire chain is currently composed <strong>of</strong> unorganized players. <strong>The</strong><br />

introduction <strong>of</strong> GST will lead to increased requirement <strong>of</strong> total logistics solutions<br />

such as 3PL/4PL, inventory /warehouse management, contract logistics services and<br />

knowledge support services.<br />

3PL at a nascent stage in <strong>India</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> role <strong>of</strong> third-party logistics service (3PL) providers is at an early stage <strong>of</strong> evolution<br />

in <strong>India</strong>. Unlike their global counterparts, <strong>India</strong>n customers are yet to witness endto-end<br />

management <strong>of</strong> transport & logistics services by 3PLs. Growth <strong>of</strong> 3PLs will<br />

increase demand for multimodal players like CCRI.<br />
