Economic Development
Sub Goal 3.1: Economic growth for long-term benefit
2005/2006 has been another busy year in
relation to economic development within
Port Augusta.
The mining boom in the north of the state
is having a major impact in the region, and
development in Port Augusta is well
underway to accommodate the various
needs of the mining industry.
A number of developments have been
completed in recent years, with others
already underway or in the planning
stages. It is anticipated that many of the
developments will significantly change the
appearance of the City.
Developers, Beverley Industrial
Development has already secured two
tenants, Bridgestone Tyres and
Landmark, for the first stage of this
project. Stage one of this project
covers 8000 sq metres and is expected
to open in October 2006 and is suited to
bulky goods, home wares or automotive
related and service trade centre.
1. Betta Electrical Store and Specialty
Shops
An electrical discount store commenced
construction during 2005/2006 adjacent
to Port Augusta’s Eastside Foreshore,
which is Stage one of a two stage
development totalling $5 million.
Stage One is estimated to be completed
by the end of October 2006.
Stage two is subject to pre-commitment
from major tenants and would cover
11,0000 sq metres, with access from
Power Station Road, which is a B-
Double access road.
3. New Courthouse
Construction of the new Courthouse on
Flinders Tce also commenced in the
reporting period, and is due to be
completed by the middle of 2007. The
estimated cost of this project is
between $9m-$10m and the building
when completed will be one of the most
spectacular and important buildings in
Port Augusta.
The second stage of this development
comprises 17 luxury Townhouses which
will overlook the Port Augusta Eastside
Foreshore.
2. Flinders View Business Centre
Another major project commenced in
2005/2006 on the southern entrance to
Port Augusta on the former Caltex site.
