would then carry the name of the
nominated region.
The Steering Committee decided that
the name of this ATC should be more
inclusive of the region it sought to
service – hence the new name the
Australian Technical College –
Spencer Gulf & Outback (ATC-
SG&O).
The Board of the ATC-SG&O was
formed in February 2006. It has 8
industry members, who have
experience in the metal and
engineering, automotive, electrotechnology,
building and construction
and commercial cookery industries.
The Board Chair is Mr. Greg Clothier,
General Manager, Action Engineering
Pty Ltd, and the Deputy Chair is Mr.
Andre Kuys, Acting Station Manager,
NRG Flinders. The remaining Board
Members have been drawn from the
Catholic and Government schooling
sectors, TAFE SA Regional and the
Development Boards. The ATC-SG&O
Inc will be incorporated as a not for
profit association in the July 2006 and
will be governed by the Board.
The Port Augusta, Port Pirie and
Whyalla nodes will commence
operations in 2007 with the
establishment of the Port Lincoln and
Roxby Downs nodes being delayed.
The principal node of the ATC-SG&O
will be co-located at the TAFE SA
Regional campus in Port Augusta.
The Whyalla node will be co-located
at the University of South Australian
Whyalla campus, and the Port Pirie
node will be located at the former,
Port Pirie Regional Council Services
Depot in Wandearah Road. The
College is to be registered as a nongovernment
school and will operate
from all three sites from 29 January
2007.
The Principal’s position has been
advertised and interviews undertaken
and it is expected that the
appointment of the successful
applicant will be made in July 2006.
8. Sale of Council Surplus Land
There has been a huge growth in the
number of new homes built in Port
Augusta Council area over the past
five years with just 20 applications
for new homes submitted in
2001/2002 compared to a staggering
108 applications for new dwellings in
2005/2006.
Council is gradually undertaking a
review of all of its vacant land
holdings, to ascertain if any of this
land is surplus to requirement, and
can be sub-divided and sold via
auction to further support the
residential growth the City is
experiencing.
Three land divisions have been
completed on Simmons Crescent,
Elsie Street and Hurcombe Crescent,
which will result in a further 21
residential allotments being created.
It is anticipated that the Simmons
Crescent blocks will be available for
auction in September 2006, with the
Elsie Street and Hurcombe Crescent
allotments being sold prior to the
30 th June 2007.
Proceeds from all sales will be
deposited into Council’s Special
Capital Reserve Fund for the purpose
of funding special community
projects.
9. Upper Spencer Gulf Business
Incubator Network Inc (Port
Augusta Business Centre)
The Port Augusta Business Centre
was officially opened on Wednesday
21 st December 2005 and is now
supporting 3 local businesses and
also houses two anchor tenants
being the Northern Regional
Development Board and AusIndustry
and Export Hub. This facility will
also accommodate on a temporary
basis the Australian Technical
College Administration Offices.
