LOCAL GOVERNMENT Whitminster Parish Council Meetings are held monthly, on the first Wednesday, throughout the year. These take place usually in the Village Hall, unless otherwise notified. Council comprises 7 Parishioners, and a Parish Clerk. Council elections take place every 4 years. Gloucestershire County Council, Shire Hall, Gloucester, GL1 2TG Stroud District Council, Ebley Mill, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 4UB CRIME POLICING AND EMERGENCY SERVICES Whitminster no longer has a Police Station in the village and now comes under Stonehouse Police Station, which is approx 5 miles to the east. The main police headquarters for Gloucestershire are located at Waterwells in Quedgeley, which is approx 4 miles north of the village just off the A38. The Fire Control Centre is at Waterwells but there are Fire Stations in Gloucester and Stroud. The Ambulance Emergency service again is controlled from Waterwells. INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION Community Magazine SPAN – circulated monthly, free of charge to every household in the Parish, due to financial contribution from Whitminster Parish Council. This magazine covers the six Church Parishes of Eastington, Frocester, Haresfield, Moreton Valence, Standish and Whitminster. Notice Boards Public ones situated at the Village Hall, Playing Field, and The Close/Vaisey Field. Parish Council Board – situated outside Whitminster Stores. Village Hall Board - on the front wall of the Hall. Notices can also be posted in Whitminster Stores, and other local outlets. Local Press: The Citizen, Stroud News & Journal, Gazette, Western Daily Press. Local Radio: Severn Sound and Radio Gloucestershire. Television: News is covered in the area by a number of Stations for the West and Midlands of the Country. Mobile Library Service; Fortnightly at the Village Hall car park on Thursdays. Telephone Kiosk: situated in The Close. Post Boxes Three in the village, situated at: The Close; School Lane by Little Holbury and at the Weir Cottage in School Lane, opposite St. Andrew‟s Church. SPORT & LEISURE Whitminster is fortunate in having two community facilities, which offer sport and leisure opportunities: The Village Hall provides indoor facilities for many group or club activities, educational classes, playgroup and toddler sessions, fund raising events and private parties. Facilities include a licensed bar, computer access points, large hall, meeting room, kitchen, toilets and stage. The sports pavilion and playing field is used by the Whitminster Football Club and Whitminster Cricket Club for organised sports, and by parishioners arranging informal games, and by the school. Facilities include a licensed bar, kitchen, social area, toilets and changing rooms equipped with showers. Play facilities are situated: a) On the Playing Field – providing a Skate Board Ramp, a hard surfaced area with basketball net and practice goal and a Rock „n Cross Seesaw. b) On two of the housing estates, those being – Little Holbury and Kidnams Walk. PUBLIC BUILDINGS Whitminster Church of England Primary School St. Andrew‟s Church War Memorial in „The Close‟ Whitminster Village Hall Sports Pavilion situated on the Playing Field The Village Hall and Playing Field facilities were combined under one charity in 1985, they remain the property of the parishioners of the Parish of Whitminster. They are managed by the Village Hall and Playing Field Management Committee, which is comprised of organisations‟ representatives and nominated / volunteer parishioners, elected annually. Churches and Chapels of other denominations can be found in Stonehouse, Stroud, Dursley, and Gloucester. Whitminster General Stores and Post Office MDS – Machinery Development Services Whitminster Motors County Council Highways Depot Tim Tiley – Furniture Restoration Fromebridge Mill – Public House/Function Centre and Restaurant Jaxons Farm – Egg Unit Whitminster House Estate. – Letting property and function facilities.
