October 8: The Monday session of Talk &
Toys for infants, toddlers and preschoolers starts
today at the Windsor Public Library from
10:30 AM to 11:30 AM and continues each
Monday. This is an unstructured hour of fun
where kids can play while parents chat. Free.

October 9: The first of a series of Parent
Center Discussion Groups will be held
tonight from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. A variety of
topics will be discussed, such as Helping Your
Child Handle Stress, Successful Discipline and
Children’s Fears. Expert presenters will be
featured at each session as will refreshments
and child care. Free but advance registration is
needed. Future discussion groups will be held
on November 7, November 20 and December 4.

October 9: Starting today, free tickets will be
available for the Windsor Public Library’s
Halloween Parade of Costumes. See the

October 10: Harry Potter and the
Chamber of Secrets is the second book to be
discussed in the series, “Time for Ideas in
Libraries.” From 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the
Windsor Public Library, kids in grades 4-6 will
explore and discuss the world of Harry Potter.

October 11: This fun Thursday morning playgroup
is facilitated by a parent volunteer who
plans and implements specific activities for children
and parents to do together. Fun with
Language is an introduction to Spanish for the
younger set. A different activity will be introduced
each week. The final class celebrates with a fiesta!
General age range for children is 2 years to 5
years but younger siblings are always welcome.

October 12: Every kid at John F. Kennedy
School is going to say “cheese” today because
today everyone gets their picture taken
for school records. Want additional copies of
your child’s photo Just return the envelope that

October 15: After School Tutoring begins
today at the Wilson Branch Library and continues
every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday throughout
the school year. From 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM
(7:30 PM on Mondays), the library pairs first
through sixth grade youngsters with a tutor for an
hour each week to work on homework, school
projects, reading and math. Free. Call 247-8960

October 15: The Windsor Public Library’s
Homework Club for 4th & 5th graders begins
today from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM and meets up
to four afternoons per week through December
20. It’s a quiet place to do homework with assistance
if you need it. You will be bussed from your
school to the library. Pre-registration begins
September 11. $5.00 per day. Call 285-1914

October 16: Windsor Parent Center and
Wilson Library jointly offer Playing With
Stories, a two-session program for parents and
children aged 4 to 5 years old. At the first class
the children will read a classic story and learn
the movements that tell the story. During the
second class they will finalize the dramatic
movements and present the story to their
parents. The material used relates to the seasons
and old time favorites. Come and have fun!
No prior experience with dance or music is
necessary. Limited to 12 parents, grandparents,
or caregivers and their children. An adult is
required to participate in the program with the
child. Meets at the Wilson Branch Library from
11:00 AM to 11:45 AM on October 16 and 23.

be discussed in the series, “Time for Ideas in

Mother Goose Laptime meets today from
9:15 AM to 10:00 AM and continues on the first
and third Thursday of each month throughout the
school year. Babies up to 14 months and their
caregivers are invited to drop in and enjoy songs,
stories and rhymes to help develop language

October 18: Tiny Tots meets today at the
Windsor Public Library and continues on the
first and third Thursday of each month from
10:30 AM to 11:15 AM. Toddlers 15 to 24
months old and a parent or caregiver are invited
to drop in and enjoy stories, songs and games.

October 19: Today is the Wilson Branch
Library’s trip to Elm Knoll Farm in Somers.
The bus leaves the library at 10:00 AM and will
return by 2:00 PM. The farm includes a petting
zoo, fun run, giant caterpillar, a hayride and a
pumpkin to take home. Bring a picnic lunch.

October 20: Three special Saturdays at
The Parent Center. Saturday Morning
Socialization at The Parent Center is an opportunity
for parents to drop in at the Parent Center anytime
between 9:30 AM and 11:45 AM for a cup
of coffee and a pastry. A structured program,
Singing with My Dad, will be offered between
10:00 AM and 11:00 AM in the Parent Room.
Parents not participating in the music program are
free to watch a video in the Crafts Room or to
discuss child development issues with a certified
parent educator. Unstructured playtime is also
available for children in the crafts area. Look
for future “socialization Saturdays” on November
