House Museum<br />

On Oc<strong>to</strong>ber 11, The Hunt<strong>in</strong>g<strong>to</strong>n House<br />

Museum will open its <strong>do</strong>ors <strong>to</strong> the public.<br />

The hours for the Museum are Thursday<br />

through Saturday, 10:00 AM <strong>to</strong> 4:00 PM<br />

and on Sunday noon <strong>to</strong> 4:00 PM. The<br />

admission prices have not been set yet, but<br />

they will be reasonable so everyone can<br />

enjoy W<strong>in</strong>dsor’s first art museum.<br />

This newly renovated old home is <strong>in</strong> itself a<br />

sight <strong>to</strong> behold. The woodwork, workmanship<br />

and elegance <strong>of</strong> an era gone by has<br />

completely been res<strong>to</strong>red.<br />

The collections on exhibition are equally<br />

remarkable. Some <strong>of</strong> the collections <strong>in</strong>clude:<br />

■ Never before shown illustrations by Charles<br />

G. Shel<strong>do</strong>n. There are more than 30 charcoal<br />

sketches that will be on display.<br />

Some date back <strong>to</strong> 1928. Many movie<br />

stars posed for Shel<strong>do</strong>n between 1925<br />

and 1929 for portraits which were used<br />

on the covers <strong>of</strong> the PHOTOPLAY monthly<br />

magaz<strong>in</strong>e. Between 1937 and 1957,<br />

Shel<strong>do</strong>n created the Breck Girls illustrations<br />

that were used <strong>in</strong> trade and national<br />

magaz<strong>in</strong>es <strong>to</strong> advertise Breck shampoo.<br />

■ Oil pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>do</strong>ne by Emile DeLobre.<br />

Although DeLobre is a lesser known French<br />

Impressionist pa<strong>in</strong>ter, his follow-classmates<br />

<strong>in</strong>cluded Matisse, Marquet, Rouault &<br />

Mangu<strong>in</strong> and his pieces <strong>in</strong> this collection<br />

from New York City are spectacular<br />

■ An extensive Hummel collection and<br />

many other f<strong>in</strong>e objects.<br />

September 13: Integral Yoga<br />

(Beg<strong>in</strong>ners) meets at 330 W<strong>in</strong>dsor Avenue<br />

from 7:30 PM <strong>to</strong> 9:00 PM. It is an <strong>in</strong>troduction<br />

<strong>to</strong> the classical yoga postures and breath<strong>in</strong>g practices<br />

that lead <strong>to</strong> flexibility, vitality and relaxation<br />

<strong>of</strong> body and m<strong>in</strong>d. Meets Thursdays through<br />

November 1. No prior yoga experience is necessary.<br />

September 14: Ellsworth School is celebrat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Family Day by <strong>in</strong>vit<strong>in</strong>g all Ellsworth students<br />

September 15: Saturday Cardio<br />

Kickbox<strong>in</strong>g meets from 9:30 AM <strong>to</strong> 10:30 AM<br />

at the L.P. Wilson Community Center through<br />

November 10. This new Saturday class comb<strong>in</strong>es<br />

fitness and martial arts with aerobic movement.<br />

return by 1:00 PM. Br<strong>in</strong>g your own lunch. This<br />

canoe trip will be <strong>to</strong>o advanced for beg<strong>in</strong>ners and<br />

those under 18 must be accompanied by an<br />

September 15: Liv<strong>in</strong>g His<strong>to</strong>ry: The<br />

Revolution Comes <strong>to</strong> W<strong>in</strong>dsor. Experience<br />

Revolutionary W<strong>in</strong>dsor 2001, when 200 reenac<strong>to</strong>rs<br />

represent<strong>in</strong>g Colonial and British troops will<br />

take over W<strong>in</strong>dsor for the weekend. At W<strong>in</strong>dsor<br />

His<strong>to</strong>rical Society, explore how the American<br />

Revolution <strong>to</strong>uched the lives <strong>of</strong> 18th century<br />

W<strong>in</strong>dsor people. On Saturday at noon, W<strong>in</strong>dsor<br />

High School’s prize-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g Teens <strong>of</strong> Praise gospel<br />

choir will s<strong>in</strong>g 18th century spirituals on the<br />

Strong House lawn. From noon <strong>to</strong> 2:00 PM, the<br />

Palisa<strong>do</strong> Green will be set up as an army hospital<br />

where you will be able <strong>to</strong> see surgeons at work,<br />

learn about common herbal Colonial medic<strong>in</strong>es<br />

and drill with the troops. W<strong>in</strong>dsor people struggled<br />

<strong>to</strong> c<strong>lot</strong>he Revolutionary troops throughout<br />

the war. See textile production at work <strong>in</strong> our two<br />

his<strong>to</strong>ric houses. Families are welcomed <strong>to</strong> our<br />

Hands On Learn<strong>in</strong>g Center <strong>to</strong> play colonial games<br />

and try their hand at some colonial crafts. At<br />

September 17: The Bill Selig Sr.<br />

Memorial Charity Golf Tournament<br />

This year’s <strong>to</strong>urnament benefits the W<strong>in</strong>dsor<br />

Revisited – Book Discussion &<br />

Sign<strong>in</strong>g.” Dr. Jerry Labriola, co-author (with<br />

Dr. Henry Lee) <strong>of</strong> Famous Crimes Revisited will<br />

be on hand <strong>to</strong> talk about his recent book from<br />

7:00 PM <strong>to</strong> 8:00 PM at the W<strong>in</strong>dsor Public<br />

Library. The book provides a landmark analysis<br />

<strong>of</strong> the most no<strong>to</strong>rious crimes <strong>of</strong> the 20th century.<br />
