House Museum

On October 11, The Huntington House
Museum will open its doors to the public.
The hours for the Museum are Thursday
through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
and on Sunday noon to 4:00 PM. The
admission prices have not been set yet, but
they will be reasonable so everyone can
enjoy Windsor’s first art museum.
This newly renovated old home is in itself a
sight to behold. The woodwork, workmanship
and elegance of an era gone by has
completely been restored.
The collections on exhibition are equally
remarkable. Some of the collections include:
■ Never before shown illustrations by Charles
G. Sheldon. There are more than 30 charcoal
sketches that will be on display.
Some date back to 1928. Many movie
stars posed for Sheldon between 1925
and 1929 for portraits which were used
on the covers of the PHOTOPLAY monthly
magazine. Between 1937 and 1957,
Sheldon created the Breck Girls illustrations
that were used in trade and national
magazines to advertise Breck shampoo.
■ Oil paintings done by Emile DeLobre.
Although DeLobre is a lesser known French
Impressionist painter, his follow-classmates
included Matisse, Marquet, Rouault &
Manguin and his pieces in this collection
from New York City are spectacular
■ An extensive Hummel collection and
many other fine objects.

September 13: Integral Yoga
(Beginners) meets at 330 Windsor Avenue
from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. It is an introduction
to the classical yoga postures and breathing practices
that lead to flexibility, vitality and relaxation
of body and mind. Meets Thursdays through
November 1. No prior yoga experience is necessary.

September 14: Ellsworth School is celebrating
Family Day by inviting all Ellsworth students
and their families to breakfast today from 7:30
AM to 8:30 AM in the school cafeteria. $1.00

September 15: Saturday Cardio
Kickboxing meets from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM
at the L.P. Wilson Community Center through
November 10. This new Saturday class combines
fitness and martial arts with aerobic movement.

September 15: Canoe down the
Farmington and Connecticut Rivers with
the folks from Northwest Park. Meet at the
Wilson Boat Launch at 9:00 AM and expect to
return by 1:00 PM. Bring your own lunch. This
canoe trip will be too advanced for beginners and
those under 18 must be accompanied by an

September 15: Living History: The
Revolution Comes to Windsor. Experience
Revolutionary Windsor 2001, when 200 reenactors
representing Colonial and British troops will
take over Windsor for the weekend. At Windsor
Historical Society, explore how the American
Revolution touched the lives of 18th century
Windsor people. On Saturday at noon, Windsor
High School’s prize-winning Teens of Praise gospel
choir will sing 18th century spirituals on the
Strong House lawn. From noon to 2:00 PM, the
Palisado Green will be set up as an army hospital
where you will be able to see surgeons at work,
learn about common herbal Colonial medicines
and drill with the troops. Windsor people struggled
to clothe Revolutionary troops throughout
the war. See textile production at work in our two
historic houses. Families are welcomed to our
Hands On Learning Center to play colonial games
and try their hand at some colonial crafts. At

September 17: The Bill Selig Sr.
Memorial Charity Golf Tournament
will be held today from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM
at Traditions in Windsor (formerly Millbrook).
This year’s tournament benefits the Windsor
Police Athletic League and the Windsor Teen

September 18: The Annual Oliver
Ellsworth School Open House is today
from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the school.

September 19: Parenting: Live and
Learn – Anger Management workshop will
be held at Oliver Ellsworth School from 6:30 PM
to 8:00 PM. Come and hear about strategic ways
to help your youngster deal with anger. Activities
will be available for children while adults participate
in the workshop. This workshop will be
facilitated by a member of the Partnership.

September 19: “Famous Crimes
Revisited – Book Discussion &
Signing.” Dr. Jerry Labriola, co-author (with
Dr. Henry Lee) of Famous Crimes Revisited will
be on hand to talk about his recent book from
7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Windsor Public
Library. The book provides a landmark analysis
of the most notorious crimes of the 20th century.
