October 10: Preparation for Childbirth.
Hartford Hospital’s Parent Education Program, in
collaboration with the Town of Windsor’s Healthy
People Initiative, is pleased to provide Preparation
for Childbirth at the Hartford Hospital Windsor
Healthcare Center, 1060 Day Hill Road Windsor.
This three-part series will include two classes on
the labor and delivery process, relaxation &
breathing, comfort techniques, role of the birth
partner, pain relief options and cesarean birth.
Part three* of the series will focus on parenting
issues and what to expect the first three months
with your new baby. Upcoming classes are scheduled
for October 10, 17, 24* December 12, 19,

Windsor’s 2001 Leaf Collection Program
Starts on October 22.
In Connecticut, leaf recycling is mandatory. In Windsor, the landfill
not only accepts your leaves, but also uses them to produce nice, rich
compost. This compost is available at the landfill, which can be
contacted at (860) 285-1833 for further information.
This year, Windsor’s leaf collection program starts on October 22
and ends on December 14. Windsor Sanitation will pick up your leaves
during this period on the same day as your trash pick-up.
Here are some things you can do to make this easier for everyone:
Use 30 to 40 gallon paper leaf bags. No plastic bags, please.
Place your bags at the curb.
If you use your own containers, please label them with a “Leaves
Only” sticker. These stickers are available at the Community Health
Services office at Town Hall)
If you choose to self-haul your leaves to the landfill, there is no charge
during this period for clean loads of leaves. The landfill is open Monday
through Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM and is located at 500
Huckleberry Road, Windsor.

School is going to say “cheese” today because
today everyone gets their picture taken
for school records. Want additional copies of
your child’s photo Just return the envelope
that will be sent home with your child. Free.

garden gloves and help rake, collect trash and
tidy up Windsor’s Green for the holiday
season. No special skills required and everyone
welcome. Meet at the Windsor Chamber of
Commerce at 9:00 AM and the job will be finished

10:00 PM for the Northwest Park
Coffeehouse. Enjoy musical entertainment in a
relaxed setting. Complimentary beverages and

October 17: Parenting: Live and Learn
– Positive Discipline workshop will be held
at Oliver Ellsworth School from 6:30 PM to
8:00 PM. Come and hear from facilitators Mike
and Maureen Donegan, MSW, about positive
discipline for your 10-15 year old child. Activities
will be available for children while adults participate
in the workshop. Please register in advance.

October 19: Today is the Wilson Branch
Library’s trip to Elm Knoll Farm in Somers.
The bus leaves the library at 10:00 AM and will
return by 2:00 PM. The farm includes a petting
zoo, fun run, giant caterpillar, a hayride and a
pumpkin to take home. Bring a picnic lunch.
