multi-age challenge course Outdoor Survival Day EVENT Do you have what it takes to survive the outdoors Can you build a fire, use a compass, follow trail markings, and get your team to the finish line Learn knot-tying, physical fitness skills, weather safety, and more as we try our own survival games! Who: Girls entering grades 1-5 Date: Tuesday, June 25, 2013 Location: Decatur Urban Program Ctr. Time: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Fee: $20 per girl Min/Max: 25/50 girls Closing Date: Monday, June 10, 2013 Lunch and snack included. Professor Buzz Returns EVENT The Professor returns for another crazy science day! It’s bound to get wild when Professor Buzz puts on her thinking cap and leads us into the world of science. Watch soda explode, build a volcano, try your hand at physics, and more! Who: Girls entering grades 1-5 Date: Tuesday, June 25, 2013 Location: Decatur Urban Program Ctr. Time: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Fee: $20 per girl Min/Max: 25/50 girls Closing Date: Tuesday, June 11, 2013 Fun patch and snack included. Informational flyer with registration on page 5! Girl Scout Day with the Cardinals Spend the afternoon at Busch Stadium cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals. Prior to the game, Girl Scouts and families get to march on the playing field. Ticket includes entry to the game. Who: All grade levels and families Date: Saturday, July 20, 2013 Location: Busch Stadium, St. Louis Time: 6:00 p.m. Fee: $18 per participant Min/Max: 80/1200 participants T-shirts are availble for purchase for an additional $12 each. Sizes: YS, YM, YL, AS, AM, AL, AXL, A2XL, and A3XL. Soft-sided coolers with snacks and plastic water or soda bottles are allowed. No cans or bottles. All ticket sales are final. Troops are responsible for meeting girl/adult ratios. Transportation is ticket holders responsibility. Cookin’ and Candy EVENT Do you like to cook and bake Have you ever made candy Work on your cooking skills as you chop, dice, and blend ingredients. Then you’ll get to taste everything we make and take the recipes home with you. Learn about nutrition and food groups throughout the day and how to use ingredients that grow from the earth. Who: Girls entering grades 1-5 Date: Tuesday, July 23, 2013 Location: Decatur Urban Program Ctr. Time: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Fee: $20 per girl Min/Max: 25/50 girls Closing Date: Monday, July 8, 2013 Fun patch and snack included. Participants should bring a sack lunch. Girl Scout Day at the Fair EVENT Come for the camaraderie; stay for the fun! Girl Scout Day at the Fair is an exciting time to enjoy the fair with hundreds of other scouts from around the state. Learn about farm animals and agriculture, visit Conservation World, explore Ethnic Village, and test your limits on the rides! Who: All grade levels and families Date: Monday, August 12, 2013 Location: Illinois State Fair Grounds, Springfield Family Fall Fest EVENT Pull out your halloween costume early and spend the day at camp with your family or troop to kick off the new Girl Scout year while enjoying the beautiful fall colors and exciting camp activities. Go on a hayrack ride, try archery, enjoy some boating, run through a fall-themed relay race, and after you work up an appetite, make a cookout dinner complete with apple cinnamon s’mores. Make sure you visit the Camp Trading Post before you leave and take a group photo at the camp sign. Who: All grade levels and families Date: Saturday, September 28, 2013 Location: Camp Peairs Time: 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Fee: $7 per participant Min/Max: 60/150 Closing Date: Thursday, September 12, 2013 Counselors in Training and/or Program Aids needed. Participants are encouraged to wear a costume! CLIMBING/ OUTDOORS Challenge Course EVENT GSCI’s challenge course offers low and high ropes courses at each site and a variety of ground initiatives designed to enhance student leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, as well as to improve communication, cooperation, support, trust, and risk-taking capabilities. Who: Girls in grades 5- adult Date: Saturday, April 13, 2013, Saturday, April 27, 2013, Saturday, May 4, 2013, or Saturday, May 18, 2013 Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Location: Camp Tapawingo or Camp Widjiwagan Fee: $15 half day,$10 climbing wall only, $30 full day no fee if not participating Min/Max: 6/15 participants Closing Date: 2 weeks prior to each session We will only be accepting paper copies for challenge course. Please indicate on registration form if your troop would like to participate in the low or high course. Low courses are typically for the morning sessions and are highly suggested for troops new to the challenge course experience. Climbing Wall EVENT Our premiere indoor rock climbing wall offers a real climbing experience in a safe environment. We provide groups access to the sport of rock climbing in a quality facility with a fun atmosphere for climbers in grade 2 and older and all levels of ability. GSCI provides a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment where groups can connect with other climbers, develop friendships, and improve their climbing skills by learning from our trained staff. Time: 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Fee: $10 per participant Min/Max: 6/15 participants Closing Date: 2 weeks prior to each session Take Aim EVENT Try your hand at using a bow and arrow. Learn tips on shooting style and form and work to improve your aim. In addition to learning basic archery, safety rules, and range etiquette, you will have the opportunity to participate in a tournament. This sport of bows and arrows is a blast - especially when shooting at balloons filled with candy! Boaters will learn from boating Instructors, how to prepare and be safe and what to do if something goes wrong before trying it out themselves. While out on Lake Bloomington practice the different paddle strokes to take you where you want and even play a game or two. Come ready to splash as you paddle around. Who: All grade levels Date: Saturday, May 18, Saturday, June 15, Saturday, July 13, Saturday, August 17, or Saturday, September 14, 2013 Time: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Location: Camp Peairs Fee: $10 per participant Min/Max: 8/15 Closing Date: 2 weeks prior to each session climbing wall/outdoors Fun patch included. Counselors in Training and/or Program Aids needed. Boaters should bring a full change of clothes; a swimsuit is optional. Groups will primarily be canoeing; however, girls’ abilities and time may allow for kayaking and/or sailing.
