Good summer for the ferries How did the ferry traffic fare this summer We put the questions to three of the city’s shipping lines. Scandlines Henrik Rörbaek, Helsingborg- Helsingør Line Manager: “It was better than expected. We have noted a marked increase during the first eight months of the year. Shorttime travel has increased substantially, and this is one of the factors leading to the improvement in the market situation. Above all, the increase is in traffic from Denmark to Sweden, which is naturally related to the rate of exchange between the two currencies. In addition, we have been making intensive marketing efforts in Denmark, and these campaigns have produced positive results.” HH-Ferries Jon Cavalli-Björkman, departing Deputy Managing Director and Marketing Executive: “Our freight and passenger volumes have both increased. A number of major players have worked hard on marketing the Öresund traffic, which has yielded growth of the total market. In addition to the Öresund Bridge, the Öresund trains are also competing with the ferries. We must use the weak Swedish krona to attract Danes to Sweden. Germany has traditionally been the destination of Danish shoppers, just as Denmark has been to us Swedes. It’s a matter of trying to change habits, but that takes time.” Sundsbussarna shuttle ferries Per Svensson, Local Manager: “The number of passengers has been roughly the same as in previous summers. The Swedish market has declined, while the Danish market has grown. Our combined tickets, that include visits to Sofiero Palace and the Fredriksdal Museum of Natural History, have proved to be a successful venture. Although a growing number of travellers use their cars, the number of one-day excursions to the nearby attractions in the Öresund region is increasing. ”Guldkärnan” Prize for the Port The Marketing Association in Helsingborg awards its ‘Guldkärnan’ Prize every year to persons, companies or organizations that have marketed Helsingborg and the north-western region of Skåne in a material way. The Port of Helsingborg was one of the four winners this year. Many contenders This year’s ‘Guldkärnan’ Prize attracted a total of more than 30 nominations, and the jury had to do its work in stages. “The fact that the Port of Helsingborg has been voted this year’s European Port naturally contributed to the award of the Prize,” confirms Mats Böllner at the Marketing Association in Helsingborg. Proud Chief Executive The prize afforded great pleasure in the Port of Helsingborg. “We are devoting resolute work to strengthening our brand name and making us better known as a competitive company. The ‘Guldkärnan’ Prize proves that our joint efforts have yielded results. It is a great team prize,” says Chief Executive P.O.Jansson. Prize-giving ceremony “The ‘Guldkärnan’ Prizes were handed over in conjunction with the Commerce and Industry Party at the Marina Plaza Hotel on 10 October. The other winners were Tina Nordström, Vasatorps Golf Club and Brandsta City Släckers. The jury consisted of representatives of Helsingborg City, Idéforum, Chamber of Commerce of Southern Sweden, Svenskt Näringsliv, and the Helsingborg Dagblad newspaper. 3
