The key objectives of the Economic Development Unit for 2009/10 were:<br />
• Maintain a positive investment environment<br />
• Support existing businesses and encourage expansion<br />

2009/<strong>2010</strong> Achievements and Activities<br />
The major achievements for 2009/10 were:<br />
• Continuation of the very successful “Buy Local” campaign<br />
• State Government funding provided for the development of the Warracknabeal<br />
Industrial Estate.<br />
• Production of the Shire Business Directory<br />
• Business networking workshop<br />
• Promotion of business development opportunities resulting from the completion of<br />
the Wimmera Mallee Pipeline<br />
• Successful operation of the community owned general stores in Patchewollock<br />
and Woomelang<br />
• Secured additional three year funding for the expansion of the Community<br />
Building Initiative.<br />
• The continued development of Y-Fest and the Murtoa Big Weekend into major<br />
events for the Shire.<br />
• Progress towards the establishment of the Wimmera Mallee Tourism Association.<br />
• Secured additional funding of $550,000 from State and Federal Governments for<br />
community infrastructure, including sport and recreation facilities.<br />
• Training and jobs provided for drought affected farmers through our involvement<br />
in the Rural Skills Connect program, particularly through the Roadside Clearance<br />
Project.<br />
