New Year Is Ideal
For Taking Care Of Business

Now that we’re embarking on a
new year, it’s a good time to remind
you of some of the recommendations
we’ve made over the last few months.
1. Are your high-grade watches
and fine jewelry adequately insured
If not, get an updated appraisal and
contact your homeowners’ insurance
company. If they don’t write insurance for jewelry, we recommend
either www.jewelersmutual.com or www.gemshield.com.
2. Have you had
the prongs checked on
your diamonds lately
Have you had the clasps
and safety locks checked on
your diamond bracelets and necklaces Have you
had the backs of your expensive earrings checked
Now that the holidays are over, your jeweler
should have time to inspect and clean your
jewelry. Even though you have insurance
(right), you
don’t want to
lose a diamond
because of a loose setting.
3. January is a great time
to get your jewelry fixed.
During the past year you
probably broke a piece or two
and just haven’t gotten around
to taking them to the jeweler.
4. Now is also a good time
to clean out the old jewelry
box. Gold is at a 15-year high
(thanks mainly to the dollar’s
decline in the currency market)
and that makes it a great time
to sell those pieces you just
don’t wear anymore. You
probably have a pile of broken
jewelry you don’t want to fix.
Gather it up, bring it in and
either sell it, trade it for some
newer styles or melt it into
a piece you design yourself.
