summary:
Lerome
Summary
The dialogue was facilitated by Phistos Molaole, a local HIV
and AIDS activist who is openly living with HIV. The dialogue
was open, frank and informative.
The young people in Lerome were excited to see the
Khululeka play addressing issues they encounter every day. At
first they were wary of expressing issues that are close to home
and opted to discuss more generic problems with HIV and
AIDS. The last half hour of the event saw a more comfortable
audience who were more willing to say “we” and “I” instead
of pointing fingers at each other.
The area experiences poverty but is located near a lucrative
mining operation and Sun City. Hence female youth in the area
have found themselves in a vulnerable position
in which they trade unprotected sex.
HANDY FACT
South African HIV
prevention programme for
implementing HIV/AIDS
programmes.
