IBI Group is partnered to deploy Infoviaje, a national
traveler information system for Mexico. IBI Group has
primary responsibility for delivering key components of
IBI’s commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) traveler information
systems platform. The system, delivered in Spanish
language, will be configured to cover the national freeway
network in Mexico. The components to be provided include:
• IBI Group’s iGO Event Reporting System (ERS) - is a
nationwide web-based system for entering events and
road conditions. The goal of the ERS is to improve intra
and inter-agency coordination through the sharing of
real-time traffic information. Activities include software
modification and configuration of the iGO ERS product
for geographic elements, such as the user interface map
and the road network configuration within the ERS.
• IBI Group’s “511” traveler information website -
provides both real-time dynamic and static traveler
information, utilizing both map-centric and list-based
display for an easy to navigate, accessible interface.
Using a state-of-the-art design and presentation, the
website will effectively communicate traffic and road
conditions, event information, transit disruptions,
weather information, and other important advisory
information for key travel corridors within Mexico.
The project includes parallel streams of consulting and
software development activities. The consulting activities
are as follows:
• Completion of an industry scan examining the state-ofthe-art
in traveler information, with a focus on revenue
generation opportunities, governance models and the
role of the private sector;
• Development of a feasibility analysis assessing the
different traveler communications options, including
web, IVR, highway advisory radio, SMS, etc.;
• Preparation of a Strategic Plan and Marketing Plan for
roll-out of the desired system; and
• Establishment of a Service Concept Plan that
examines operations, maintenance, staffing, and facility
requirements.
London Travel Information System
London, England
IBI Group worked with the Highways Agency and Transport
for London (TfL) to provide a facility that provides a unified
view on travel information held by both organisations. The
facility shows the current travel information for the key
routes in the South East of England, including London.
Information will be available to mobile devices and
conventional Internet equipped PCs. An early prototype
of the mobile-ready application was demonstrated at the
IEE’s recent RTIC conference. As part of this work, IBI
Group investigated some institutional and operational
aspects by developing ways to better define the quality of
data being exchanged via the TIH. This built on proposals
made as part of the DTLR’s UTMC Programme. This
element of the work will ultimately demonstrate the role
that data quality can play in an information service by
allowing users of the information facility to refine what
information they receive based on its quality as well as its
content. The project provides a stimulus for closer links
between source data providers (such as the Highways
Agency and TfL) and Value Added Services Providers
(VASPs) to further enhance the traveller information market.
