Frontier-Vietnam Environmental Research Report 27 Some of fish species breed in deep areas such as: Thu species, Ngu species and Chuon species, the rest breed inshore where water is less deep. Food composition for most marine fish species is diversified through their distribution. Most species are omnivores, although some eat plankton and benthos. Specie composition There are approximately 2030 fish species identified in Viet Nam sea area, included 100 commericial species. Volume and exploiting potentiality Following the latest survey report, there are about 4 million tonnes of marine fish in Viet Nam of which around 1.6 to 1.7 million tonnes could be exploited. 2. Benefit of sea shrimp There are about 225 species of shrimp( 69 genious and 6 families ) Viet Nam’s marine area, for example: Penaeidae family- 59 species, Solenoceridae family-12 species, Lobster-3 species, Scyllaridae family-9 species … in those species there are 43 economic species( 45 %). Volume of sea shrimp is about 54,000 tonnes, exploiting potentiality about 30,000 tones. 3.Benefit of squid There are about 53 species of squid in Viet nam( 12 genious, 6 families ), included some commercial species, for example: Sepioteuthis lessoniana, Loligo chinensis, Loligo duvauceli, Loligo edulis, Loligo singhalensis… IV. Eploiting marine resources and the threats 1. Raising aquatic products Recently, raising aquatic products is developing in Viet nam, that could help commercially but it brings some threats such as:: • Reduce mangrove area • Polluted water by waste food, chemicals 2. Exploiting aquatic products Exploiting intensity is increasing, especially between 1990 to 2000 and averaging 6% per year. Many instructions from the Prime Minister, including the one No 130-CT about establishing the department of aquatic resource protection, that is the basis for building and developing system of aquatic resource organizations to observe fishing activities.
