The collaboration with Enel to build a CCGT
Power Plant in Charleroi through Marcinelle
Energie, a special purpose company, was
successfully effected.
The CCGT entered into commercial activity
on March 30th, 2012. It now participates in
reinforcing the safety of supplies and has
also stimulated competition in Belgium.

The put option of Duferco was executed
by mutual agreement, after terminating the
development process. By allowing the plant
to become fully integrated in ENEL’s group,
it reinforces its ability to tackle the current
debate on the gas power plant situation.
It is of great importance to change the
rules so that the company can play a
remunerative role in ensuring the safety of
supplies with a similar kind of power plant.
Duferco intends to develop other
investments in the electricity production
market, from large gas power plants to
small renewable projects through peak
power units.
The Group partnered with third parties for
the development of some wind turbines
in La Louvière. This project is now in the
process of acquiring permits.
Besides the generation of electricity,
Duferco Wallonie offers Energy
Management services. It consists, in
particular, of taking charge of the supply of
electricity, the role of Access Responsible
Party (in charge of nominations and
imbalances) and the transportation to the
delivery point. The Energy team offers
equivalent services for natural gas and
green certificates.
The Energy Management team also takes
charge, in the name of industrial third
parties, of the negotiation and management
of major energy supply contracts, as
well as the contacts with authorities and
lobby groups regarding energy matters for
industrial companies.
In parallel with brownfield redevelopment
activities, the Group concentrates on
developing its own competences and
assets in soil remediation. These assets
will be used both for performing the
remediation works to be carried out on
the privately-owned brownfield sites as
well developing commercial offers to third
parties.
Duferco’s subsidiary, Deep Green SA,
develops and commercialises a patented
soil remediation technology under the
name Thermopile © . This process can be
applied in situ (without excavation, even
under existing buildings) or on site (after
excavation into concrete pools).
Major developments were already realised
in 2011 by applying the technology to the
treatment of free-phase layers. A new key
development achieved maturity in 2012,
based on a 3-year R&D. It brings a high
level of flexibility to in situ treatment, by
offering an autonomous single pipe with
an embedded self-controlled burner,
without any loss of Thermopile © benefits,
such as closed-loop functioning.
Deep Green also supports customers
by offering a complete brownfield
management service, from the first audit
and business case study to the general
works implementation.
With a team in project management and
depollution techniques, supported by an
important network of multidisciplinary
skills within the Duferco group, Deep
Green is able to offer a performance
from A to Z for the valorisation of disused
industrial sites. In order to focus on the
specific needs of the customer, Deep
Green proposes to identify the scope of
intervention with its client with a view to
adding significance to its value.
The scope will vary from the full turnkey
project management of a general
remediation project to a local in situ
soil cleaning (pump & treat, multiphase
extraction, bio-stimulation, ISCO etc), or
even the execution of depollution in an
urban environment with Thermopile © ,
the job of coordinating excavation
and disposal directly to an accredited
treatment centre, the treatment of heavy
metal contamination with our physicochemical
treatment installation, etc.
