as 4 million tones a year (t/y) by <strong>2012</strong> and could prompt expansion across the<br />

region’s aluminium-processing industries.<br />

New primary smelters up and coming in the region are Qatar, the UAE, Oman, with<br />

future developments in the Saudi Arabia. Global output is expected to reach 60<br />

million tones by 2020. When the new planned projects come on stream, the Middle<br />

East could even double its production.<br />

Organised by Reed Exhibitions Middle East, ALUMINIUM <strong>DUBAI</strong> took place from 29<br />

– 31 March <strong>2009</strong> and played host to 166 companies from 24 countries, occupying<br />

6,000 sqm of exhibit space at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition<br />

Centre (DICEC). The <strong>show</strong> was inaugurated by H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al<br />

Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance.<br />

Over 40 percent of exhibiting companies at ALUMINIUM <strong>DUBAI</strong> <strong>2009</strong> <strong>show</strong>cased<br />

midstream technologies such as aluminium extrusion, casting and heat treatment,<br />

while smelting, plant engineering, fabrication and other technologies made up the<br />

rest. The exhibitor portfolio at this year’s edition included products used for building<br />

and construction, transportation, electrical and mechanical engineering, factory<br />

equipment, packaging, and container construction, as well as those used in designoriented<br />

applications.<br />

Among the key UAE exhibitors at Aluminum Dubai are Dubai <strong>Aluminium</strong> (DUBAL),<br />

EMAL, Al Jaber <strong>Aluminium</strong> Extrusions, Alba Tower <strong>Aluminium</strong> Factory Ltd, ATBIN<br />

International, Gulf Extrusion, Inma-Gulf Development and Construction LLC, CIE<br />

Environment Dubai and Smartouch, among others.<br />

International exhibitors include SMS Demag, FATA Group, Zenergy Power Pty Ltd,<br />

Hydro ASA, RHI AG, Harbin Dongsheng Metal Co. Ltd and, Nanjing Welbow Metals<br />

Co. Ltd,, to name a few. Germany and Norway have national pavilions at the event.<br />

Nineteen of Reed Exhibitions’ global partners at its other aluminium <strong>show</strong>s including<br />

ALUMINIUM Essen, ALUMINIUM China and ALUMINIUM India have participated at<br />

the <strong>show</strong>. Companies including Harbin Dongsheng Metal Co Ltd, Zenergy Power Pty<br />

Ltd, Compagnia Italiana Ecologia SRL, Claudius Peters Technologies GmbH, EMAL,<br />

Alba Tower and CIE Environment Dubai have hosted workshops at ALUMINIUM<br />

Dubai.<br />
